Ladies host first tri-match for home debut
SHREVEPORT – After two tough weekends to start the season, Centenary is excited about playing in front of its home crowd for the first time this season in the first of its four tri-matches this year. Belhaven University (5-2) and Mississippi College (5-4) begin the tri-match at 3 p.m. Centenary (0-8) will play the two squads at 5 and 7 p.m., respectively. The Ladies are off another four-loss weekend at the UT Tyler Tournament, but playing at home should spark a new level of confidence. “Hopefully playing in familiar and comfortable surroundings will motivate us more than we have been all season,” third-year head coach Jon Stenman said. The Ladies were above .500 at home last season at 4-3. Senior Jesi Wilcox leads the Ladies with 97 digs, nearly double Brooke Bahlinger’s 49, second-best on the squad. Bahlinger also nears the top of the charts in kills with 37, just five behind Sarah Sumner, who has 42 scores in 130 total attacks. Junior Beth Nuttall accounts for more than half of the team’s assists with 108 of 191. Emily Shelton (25), Shelby Jackson (18) and Bahlinger (11) join Nuttall as the only Ladies who have passed the double-digit plateau. |
