Kemp, Grinnell lead Ladies to top-three finish
WESTWORTH VILLAGE, Texas – Justine Kemp started her senior year off with a top-10 finish at the Hawk’s Creek Classic, leading the Ladies in a tied-for-third finish. Kemp fired an 84 in the first round, knocking off 10 strokes in the finale for a 158, a stroke ahead of teammate Rachel Grinnell (81-78—159). Dallas Baptist’s Mercedes Rios won the tournament with a two-day 151 (77-74), edging Oklahoma Christian’s Anna Arrese, who had a two-stroke lead over Rio after the first day. Dallas Baptist and Oklahoma Christian finished first and second, respectively, in the team standings. Centenary freshman Jamie Wright garnered a top-15 finish in her collegiate debut at 13th, just three shots behind veteran Kemp. Wright copied Kemp’s opening 84 before shaving seven strokes off her second-round mark with a 77. Sarah Bradshaw finished 22nd with an 82, followed by an 86, 20 strokes ahead of teammate Kylee Goldthorn (99-89—188). The Ladies next tournament is in Monroe, La., Sunday at Bayou DeSiard Country Club.
