Ladies open season Saturday at Schreiner
KERRVILLE, Texas – Coming off a 2-0 loss in the Mayor’s Cup to in-city rival LSU-Shreveport Monday afternoon, Centenary’s women’s soccer team faces off with Schreiner Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Ladies season debut. After the Saturday afternoon contest, Centenary will stay on the road to battle Texas Lutheran Monday at noon in Seguin, Texas. “It’ll be a tough battle with both schools, so we’ll see what happens,” head coach Glenn Evans said. After the two-game road trip, the Ladies will make their home debut Sunday, Sept. 9, against Millsaps College at 2 p.m. The Ladies struggled offensively in the Mayor’s Cup Aug. 27, taking only four shots compared to the Lady Pilots 26. Amanda Atwell accounted for Centenary’s only shot on goal, while Hannah Pfannenstiel, Carly Slovensky and Traci Lee took a shot apiece. Evans said one of his key concerns going into the season is the transition from high school to college for his eight freshmen, which makes up nearly half of the 17-person roster. “I think the major concern we’ve got is getting our freshmen acclimated to the college game,” Evans said. “And we’ve got five key injuries. Hopefully those five can play.” With the eight freshmen, Centenary has six sophomores, and only two juniors (Justine Russell and Traci Lee) and one senior (Allie Cortes). |
