Gents Fall 50-33 At Home To ETBU

The Gents (0-2) have a bye week on Sept. 27 and then face Austin College on Oct. 4 in Sherman, Texas. ETBU (3-0) will face Texas Lutheran University next Saturday in Seguin, Texas.
There was no shortage of offense as Centenary 74 plays for 484 yards and finished with 26 first downs and ETBU amassed 503 yards on 71 plays with 32 first downs. Each team scored a touchdown in the first quarter but the Tigers outscored the Gents 22-12 in the second period to take a 29-19 halftime lead. ETBU outscored Centenary 14-6 in the third quarter and the Gents edged the Tigers 8-7 in the final 15 minutes.
Senior QB/LB Vance Feuerbacher (Plano, Texas) passed for an even 500 yards, which is the third-most yards all-time in a single game for a SCAC quarterback in conference history. Feuerbacher completed 31 of 48 passes and threw for five touchdowns He also scored on a 2-point conversion run and punted and kicked off. Feuerbacher was sacked seven times by an aggressive ETBU defense and was held to -27 yards on 16 carries.
ETBU QB Shai Markajani was 20-29 for 193 yards and one TD but threw three interceptions. Tigers' RB Paul Woodard had a big game as he rushed 14 times for 151 yards and Jordan Woodard carried the ball 14 times for 81 yards. The Tigers ran for 302 yards on 41 carries.
ETBU's Kobe Chambers, who played for the Gents last season, was the Tigers' leading receiver as he caught seven passes for 102 yards and a TD and returned three kicks for 71 yards. He also fumbled twice, losing one.
The Gents finished 4 of 13 (31 %) on third-down conversions while the Tigers were 5 of 9 for 56 %. Centenary was 2 of 5 on fourth down (40 %) and ETBU went for it twice and converted one attempt.
Freshman WR Theo Dunn (Gonzales, La.) caught six passes for a game-high 133 yards and one TD, senior RB Obadiah Butler (Crowley, La.) caught four passes for 65 yards and a pair of TD, and freshman TE Ayden Baker (Bossier City, La.) caught three passes for 55 yards.
Sophomore Devon Strickland (Shreveport, La.) carried the ball twice for 20 yards and caught four passes for 40 yards and one TD, sophomore RB/WR Christopher Jackson (Shreveport, La.) caught six balls for 61 yards, and junior Caden Lynch (Tyler, Texas) caught one pass for 51 yards. Senior WR Trent Smith (Shreveport, La.) caught four passes for 82 yards and one TD.
Feuerbacher kicked off four times for 155 yards (38.8 average) and punted two times for 73 yards (36.5 avg.) with a long of 44. Butler returned seven kickoffs for 162 yards (23.1 avg.) with a long return of 48 yards.
Sophomore LB Collin Watkins (West Monroe, La.), sophomore Christopher Dade (West Monroe, La.), and freshman DB Seth St. Martin (New Orleans, La.) each picked off Markajani and freshman WR Zander Frederick (Maurice, La.) had a fumble recovery.
Freshman DB TJ Ranson (New Orleans, La.) was the Gents' top tackler as he finished with 14 total tackles (5 solo stops) and had 2.5 tackles for loss and one pass breakup. The Gents finished with seven TFL, two PBU, and one sack.
