Men's Golf Sixth Heading Into Final Round At SCAC Championships
The Centenary men's golf team is in sixth place after the first two rounds at the 2021 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Monday at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club.
Blanco, Texas - The Centenary men's golf team is in sixth place after the first two rounds at the 2021 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Monday at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club.
The Gents shot a 14-over par 302 in round one and a 31-over 319 in round two for a 45-over 621 for the day. Trinity is the leader entering Tuesday's final round after shooting a 3-over 579. Host Texas Lutheran is in second place, two shots back of the lead, and Dallas and St. Thomas are tied for third place at 27-over 603. Schreiner is fifth after shooting a 43-over 619, two shots ahead of Centenary. The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m. at the par-72, 6,864-yard course.
Sophomore Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic) and senior Brodey Warner (Brookeland, Texas) paced the Gents as each shot a 5-over par 149 to tie for ninth place. Polan shot 74-75 and Warner carded an even-par 72 in round one, Centenary's lowest score of the day, followed by a 77 in round two.
Senior Harrison John (Lafayette, La.) shot 74-88 (+18 – 162) and is in 28th place, freshman Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.) shot an 82 in round one followed by an 84 for a 166 (+22) total and is 29th, and fellow freshman Riley Chase (Crosby, Texas) is 30th after shooting rounds of 85 and 83 (+24 – 168).
Texas Lutheran's Nathan Haley is the current individual leader after firing a 6-under par 138 with a 4-under 68 in round one and a 2-under 70 in round two. A pair of Trinity golfers, Daniel Nunez and Zac Bunder, are the only other two golfers currently under par and are second and third respectively behind Haley. Nunez shot 70-72 – 142 (-2) and Bunder is even par after shooting a 3-over 75 in round one and a three-under 69 in round two.
