Softball Season Ends With Loss To Texas Lutheran In SCAC Championship On Sunday
The No. 6 seed Centenary softball team had its season come to an end with a 5-0 loss to the nationally-ranked and No. 1 seed Texas Lutheran Bulldogs in an elimination game of the 2025 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship at Taylor-Sanders Field on the campus of Southwestern University.

The Ladies (21-22) had a successful weekend as they rebounded from a 6-2 loss to the No. 3 seed Trinity University Tigers on Friday in their tournament opener to notch consecutive elimination-round victories over the No. 5 seed McMurry University War Hawks on Saturday and a 5-3 win over Trinity on Sunday morning.
The Bulldogs, ranked fourth in the country in the latest NFCA/Gorout Division III Top 25 Softball Coaches' Poll, improve to 39-2 and will face the No. 2 seed University of St. Thomas Celts (31-10) in the championship round on Sunday afternoon. The Ladies' 21 wins are their second-most in a season in the division III era (2012-present) with their most (23) coming in 2016.
The Ladies finished with five hits, drew one walk, struck out three times, left six on base, and did not commit an error. The Bulldogs had 11 hits, one walk, struck out four times, left four on base, and also played error-free ball.
Senior LHP Emma Shepherd (Athens, La.) started in the circle for the Ladies and was tagged with the loss to fall to 9-10 this season. She went 3.2 innings and allowed five runs, all earned, on eight hits with one walk and no strikeouts and one home run. She faced 20 batters and threw 62 pitches (36 strikes).
Senior P Anna Scarbrock (Alexandria, La.) relieved her and went the final 2.1 innings and allowed no runs and three hits with no BB or K's. She faced eight batters and threw 24 pitches – 14 for strikes.
Amanda White (20-1) started for the Bulldogs and went the distance as she blanked the Ladies on five hits with one BB and three K's. She faced 27 batters, hitting one, and threw 101 pitches (70 strikes).
The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two-run home run by 1B Faith Hernandez to score CF Annie Kay. TLU then scored three times in the fourth as C Bella Rodriguez doubled home RF Taylor Vannett to make it 3-0, 2B Caelee Clark had an RBI groundout, and Kay doubled to score SS Linzee Leal to cap the scoring.
Senior 3B Viviana Rivero (Redondo Beach, Calif.) had two of the Ladies' five hits and junior 1B Abigail Hodgson (Florence, Texas), sophomore DP Taylor Good (Flower Mound, Texas), and freshman SS Kaitlynn Alello (Denham Springs, La.) each had one. Hodgson also drew the Ladies' lone walk.
