Ladies Soccer
The Ladies finished their 2022 season at 2-16-2 overall and 2-11-1 in SCAC play. They allowed two goals or less in a game 12 times during the season, displaying their overall defensive ability.
Ladies' senior F Sydney Bascomb (Mesquite, Texas) finished her stellar career ranked ninth all-time in the division III era (2011-present) in goals (10), tied for first in assists (9), eighth in points (29), and third in game-winning goals (5). She scored three goals this past season and two of those came in conference play. She is a three-time member of the SCAC Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll and a Geology major who played in 66 career matches and made 62 starts.
She was named to the College Sports Communicators 2022 Academic All-District ®Team after the season. The 2022 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top
student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Senior MF/D Gabby McDonald (Pasadena, Texas) finished the season as the Ladies' leader in goals (4), points (10), and was tied for the team lead in assists (2) with senior F Avery Gilbert (League City, Texas). McDonald, like Bascomb, will finish her career as one of the best players in the D3 era as she amassed 13 career goals, seven assists, 33 points, and four game-winning goals. McDonald is tied for fourth in the D3 era in goals, tied for fourth in assists, tied for fourth in points, and tied for fourth in game-winning goals (4).
Gents Soccer
The Gents landed a record-setting four players on the 2022 All-SCAC Men's Soccer Team this past season. The four all-conference selections are the Gents' most since joining the SCAC prior to the 2012 season as the previous mark was three in 2020. Senior MF Jaron Petreas (Denton, Texas), senior GK Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La.), freshman F Aaron Myers (Plano, Texas) and freshman D Mackenzie Soul (Shreveport, La.) earned spots on the team as Petreas was named to the Second Team, Borchalli earned Honorable-Mention honors and Soul and Myers each earned spots on the All-Freshman Team.
Myers and Soul join their teammate, sophomore F Dylan Allred (Lafayette, La.) as the only players to be named to the SCAC All-Freshman Team in program history. Centenary placed at least two players on the All-SCAC team for the sixth time.
Petreas ends his time with the Gents ranked second in career goals (12), tied for third in assists (6), second in points (30), first in shots (93), and tied for third in game-winning goals (3). He started all 59 matches that he played in and scored seven goals this past season – tied for second-most in a single-season in the Div. III era.
Borchalli finishes his superb Gents' career as the D3 era leader in career shutouts (14) and saves (415) and set a single-match record for saves with 17 on Oct. 23 at home versus Trinity – appropriately occurring on his Senior Day. Borchalli held the previous record of 16 saves, set on Oct. 7, 2018, also against Trinity. He finished his career with a .750 save % and played in 72 matches, starting 70. Both Borchalli and Petreas have been named to the SCAC Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll every year during their careers.
Myers had a memorable collegiate debut this past season as he scored a pair of goals in Centenary's season-opening 5-0 win at home over Dallas Christian on Sept. 1. He became just the 12th Centenary player in the D3 era to score two goals in a game and finished the season with four goals (tied for second on the team) and eight points while playing in 11 matches and making five starts. His other two goals came on Sept. 23 against McMurry and Oct. 21 at home versus Schreiner
Soul started all 15 matches that he played in and blossomed into one of the conference's top defenders as a rookie and scored one goal – on Sept. 25 against Texas-Dallas. Soul was one of the leaders of a Gents' back line that recorded four shutouts and held their opponents to two goals or less eight times during the season.
Petreas was named the 2022 SCAC Men's Soccer Elite 19 award winner after the season. He currently holds a cumulative GPA of 4.00 in Economics with a minor in legal studies and is now the first two-time SCAC Men's Soccer Elite 19 winner, previously winning during the COVID shortened 2020-21 season. He was also named to the College Sports Communicators 2022 Academic All-District ®Team. Ladies Volleyball
The Ladies finished 10-24 overall and 0-16 in SCAC play and were once again one of the top teams in the country in total digs, recording an impressive 2,022.
Senior DS/L Jaycie Proctor (Paris, Texas) finished her career as one of the top players in the division III era (2011-present) in program history in her record-breaking three seasons with the Ladies. Proctor recorded a whopping 558 digs this season and averaged 4.93 digs per set as she played in 32 matches and 113 sets. She finishes her stellar career with 1,112 digs, fourth-most in the D3 era, her 558 this season are the second-most in a single season in the D3 era, and she is also the career leader in digs per set (4.56). Proctor ranked second in the conference in digs and in the top 35 in the country in all of division III.
Proctor was named to the College Sports Communicators 2022 Volleyball Academic All-District ®Team after the season. The 2022 Academic All‐District® Women's Volleyball Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Proctor was one of just 13 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference student-athletes to be named to the prestigious team and is the first volleyball player in Centenary program history to earn the honor.
Senior S/RS Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.) also finished her superb career with the Ladies as one of the top players in program history in the D3 era. She is the all-time leader in assists (2,948), fourth in digs (1,038), sixth in service aces (90), and seventh in sets played (385). Demerjian played in 108 career matches and also tallied 208 kills and 334.5 points. She was named Second-Team All-SCAC as a freshman and is a three-time member of the SCAC Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll.
Senior MB Liz Lowe (San Antonio, Texas) capped her successful career with the Ladies by playing in 32 matches and 115 sets and recording 289 kills, 2.51 kills peer set and 195 digs. She ranks in the top 10 in the conference in kills and reached double digits in kills 15 times this season. She also added 37 service aces, 17 blocks, 13 assists, and 40 block assists. She is ranked sixth all-time in the division III era (2011-present) in program history in kills with 688.
Freshman S Meadow Smith (Mansfield, Texas) turned in an impressive rookie season for the Ladies as she played in 31 matches and 108 sets and totaled 494 assists and 220 digs. Her 494 assists are the ninth-most in a single season in the division III era (2011-present) in program history and she topped 20 assists in a match 10 times this season highlighted by a season-best 37 versus Texas Lutheran on Oct. 2. She made an immediate impact in her first collegiate match with 28 assists versus Howard Payne on Sept. 2. She finished in the top five in the conference in assists this season.
Sophomore RS Jaylin St. Martin (New Orleans, La.) followed an impressive rookie campaign with a sensational sophomore season as she played in 31 matches and 111 total sets and amassed 279 kills and 143 digs and finished with 2.52 kills per set. She added 10 solo blocks, 44 block assists, 21 aces, and nine assists as one of the Ladies? top all-around players. Her 279 kills rank ninth all-time in the division III era (2011-present) in program history for a single season and her 2.52 kills per set rank 10th. She posted double-digits 12 times in a match this season and matched her single-game career-high with 17 kills versus Texas A&M-Texarkana on Sept. 6. She in ranked in the top 10 in the conference this season in kills.
