Gents Finish Sixth At Pinecrest Invitational; Polan Records Runner-Up Finish
The Centenary men's golf team finished sixth in the 2022 Pinecrest Invitational hosted by LeTourneau University on Tuesday as junior Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic) finished as the individual runner-up at the Pinecrest Country Club.
Longview, Texas - The Centenary men's golf team finished sixth in the 2022 Pinecrest Invitational hosted by LeTourneau University on Tuesday as junior Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic) finished as the individual runner-up at the Pinecrest Country Club.
The Gents shot a final-round 315 to finish the tournament at 80-over par 932. Centenary, also sixth after Monday's play, shot a 316 in round one and a 301 in round two. Schreiner won the tournament at +26 – 878 to finish 14 shots ahead of Concordia (Texas) at the par-71, 6,609-yard PCC.
Centenary was joined by the host YellowJackets and 13 other schools - East Texas Baptist University, Hendrix College, Schreiner University, Tyler Junior College, Jacksonville College, Murray State, University of Houston-Victoria, Central College, Dallas Christian College, Concordia University, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Louisiana Christian University, and McMurry University.
Polan, who held a share of the lead after one round and was up four shots after round two, shot a final-round 4-over 75 to finish at 1-under par 212 and three shots behind individual champion Zhao Yung Gu of Schreiner (4-under par 209). Polan has thrived in his career at the course, tying for the individual lead and falling in a playoff last season after a third-place finish as a freshman. Gu and Polan were the only two players to finish under par.
Polan actually turned in his lowest total of the three tournaments on Tuesday as he posted a 215 as a rookie and a 213 last season. He earned his fourth-career top-five finish and seventh top-10 finish on Tuesday. He shot a 1-under par 70 in round one, a 4-under 67 in round two before his 75 on Tuesday. Polan has now earned at least a top-20 finish in eight of his last nine tournaments.
Centenary sophomore Drew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) earned a top-10 finish as he shot a 15-over par 228 to tie for ninth place. Senior Harrison John (Lafayette, La.) shot a 29-over 242 to finish 36th, sophomore Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.) finished 41st at 38-over 251, junior Devan Martin (Watson, La.) finished in 47th place at 58-over 271 and freshman Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) finished 48th at 68-over 281.
The Gents will next be in action on March 21-22 as they host the annual Hal Sutton Invitational at the Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier City.
