Bio
Billy LeClair enters his seventh season as head coach of the Gents in 2027 after he was promoted to Associate Head Coach in June, 2021.
The Gents finished their 2026 season with a 10-4 record, their most successful one in program history. Centenary finished as one of the top offensive teams in the country with 246 goals, 150 assists, and 396 points as the Maroon and White averaged just under 18 goals per game as six players scored 10+ goals each.
Sophomore A Gamble Harvill (Bossier City, La.) scored an NCAA single-game record 14 goals in Centenary's 21-11 victory over the Hendrix on Feb. 7. Harvill stands alone in NCAA history across all three divisions (DI, DII, and DIII) for goals in a single game, as the previous mark was 13 accomplished four other DIII players and one D2 player. No division 1 player has ever scored more than 11 goals in a game, accomplished four times.
Freshman FO Gavin Ferrington (Bossier City, La.) and sophomore A Noah Walsh (Mount Prospect, Ill.) were each named USA Lacrosse NCAA Division III men's All-Americans, earning Honorable-Mention honors.
Ferrington turned in a fantastic rookie season as he played in 14 games and led the country in face-off winning % (.823) as he won 218 of 265 attempts. He added nine goals and three assists. He recorded a program-best 95 % Faceoff Winning Percentage against Hendrix College on Feb. 7.
Walsh started 13 games and had a stellar season as he scored 52 goals and added 80 assists for a total of 132 points. He led the country in assists and assists per game and was sixth in goals per game and top 10 in goals scored. He scored multiple goals in 12 of his 13 games with a season-best eight in his Gents' debut on Jan. 31 against LaGrange College.
Walsh set a new program record for points in a game with 15 with his whopping eight goals and seven assists in Centenary's 27-10 victory over LaGrange and he then notched a single-game record 11 assists against Hendrix, the sixth-most in a single game by a DIII player in NCAA history.
Ferrington and Walsh were each named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association 2026 Division III Men's Lacrosse Team of the Week during the season as Walsh was honored twice and Ferrington once.
Junior M Ethan Hewett (Bossier City, La.) was named to the USILA Team of the Week on March 11. Noah Walsh, Gavin Ferrington, and Gamble Harvill made the team on Feb. 19.
Gavin Ferrington recorded a program-best 95 % Faceoff Winning Percentage in Centenary's 21-11 victory over the Hendrix College Warriors on Feb. 7.
Noah Walsh tallied a single-game record 11 assists against Hendrix and set a new program record for points in a game with 15 following eight goals and seven assists in Centenary's 27-10 victory over LaGrange College on Jan. 31. His 15 points are the sixth-most in a single game by a D3 player in NCAA history and Walsh's 11 assists are also the sixth-most in a single game by a DIII player in NCAA history.
Sophomore MF Cooper Harris (Lexington, Ky.) was named to the 2025-26 Academic All-District® Men's At-Large team by the College Sports Communicators. Harris, in his first season with the Gents, played in all 14 matches this past season and scored 15 goals and tallied seven assists for a total of 22 points. Harris was named to the prestigious team for the first time in his career.
The Gents capped their 2025 season with a flourish with a 27-9 victory over Northland College on Senior Day at Atkins Field as they exploded for a program record number of goals against Northland on April 19 and scored 20+ goals for the third time during the season.
Centenary finished its season at 5-6 and flexed its offensive muscles all season long as the Maroon and White scored 161 goals, averaging 14.6 goals per game, and added 90 assists for 251 total points.
Freshman A Gamble Harvill (Bossier City, La.) scored a team-leading 38 goals to set a new single-season program record and scored eight in the win over Northland. Senior A G'Colby Spivey (Dallas, Texas) was second on the team in goals (29), senior M Jordan Cook (Bryant, Ark.) and Sophomore M Ethan Hewett (Bossier City, La.) were tied for third place with 28 each, and sophomore A Gibson Harvill (Bossier, City, La.) was fifth with 26.
Gibson Harvill matched his younger brother with eight goals of his own on in the regular-season finale, Cook and Spivey each scored four, Hewett had two, and freshman MF Travis Davis (Shreveport, La.) scored one. Senior GK Dylan Miller (Shreveport, La.) made five saves against Northland and recorded 166 for the season.
Centenary honored its 2025 season class - D Kaleb Coates (Shreveport, La.) Jordan Cook, Dylan Miller, and G'Colby Spivey in a pregame ceremony before the regular-season finale. LeClair was chosen as Centenary Athletics' Head Coach of the Year at the annual end of season banquet in April.
The Gents finished 1-12 in 2024 but three games were decided by three goals or less which included a pair of losses by one goal. Centenary was strong on offense as the Maroon and White scored 93 goals for an average of 7.15 per game and tallied 50 assists. The Gents scored 10+ goals in a game three times and scored a season-high 16 in a 16-2 victory at Spalding.
Four players scored 18 or more goals last season – Senior A/MF Mark Temple, Freshman M Ethan Hewett, sophomore A G'Colby Spivey, and Senior M Jordan Cook as they combined to score 84 goals. Junior GK Dylan Miller (Shreveport, La.) started 11 games and set a program single-game record with 30 saves in Centenary's game against Hendrix on March 13 at home.
The Gents finished 2-10 overall and 0-2 in Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) play in 2023. The Maroon and White scored 95 goals, an average of 7.9 per game, and tallied 41 assists. Centenary had five players score 10+ goals each and placed one player on the all-conference team as junior D Matthew Lulich (New Orleans, La.) was named to the second team. Lulich, a standout defender, earned Second-Team honors for the second-straight season. Lulich played in all 12 of the Gents' games, starting 10, and finished with 29 ground balls (fourth on team) and a team-high 21 caused turnovers.
Senior D Chris Dant (Bossier City, La.) was named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Men's At-Large Team, which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom.
The Gents set a program record for goals in a game in their dominant 23-2 victory over Spalding University at Mayo Field on March 17, 2023. Centenary topped 20 goals for the first time in program history as its previous single-game record was 18 in a win at Dallas on April 24, 2021.
LeClair, a native of Gurnee, Ill., was an integral part of Centenary's success in 2022, as the Gents finished their regular season with a flourish on April 24 as the Maroon and White scored a program record number of goals in an impressive 18-8 rout of Dallas on the road.
Centenary previously defeated the Crusaders, 7-4, at home on March 7 as the Gents won for the first time since reestablishing as a varsity program. The Gents also made their postseason debut as a program on April 30 as they faced Southwestern in the semifinals of the 2021 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship in Colorado Springs, Colo.
LeClair played lacrosse at Defiance College for three years and served as team captain his sophomore and junior year. His previous coaching experience includes serving as head coach for the Lake County Select 14U summer team in 2014, 2015, and 2018. LeClair also coached at Highland Park High School in Highland Park, Ill. for a year as the Head JV Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach, and then served as Head JV and Assistant Varsity Coach for Warren Township High School in Gurnee, Ill. for a year.
During his time at Warren Township, the team was runner-up for the 2019 State Championship, a first in school history. LeClair was also the head of lacrosse at Camp Starlight located in Starlight, Penn., in the summer of 2019.
LeClair is married to the former Ellen Reid, a former Centenary Athletics employee who started the cheer and dance program in 2019. They have a son, Reid, who was born on Nov. 3, 2023.
