The Ladies (1-18, 1-9 SCAC) and the Pirates (9-9, 6-4 SCAC) will meet for the second time this season after Southwestern picked up a 70-38 win over the Ladies on its home court last month. The Pirates enter Friday's play having won two games in a row and are 4-2 on the road this season.
Centenary dropped a 96-46 decision to top-ranked Trinity last Friday and then fell 92-58 the following day at Schreiner. The Pirates won a pair of games at home last weekend in league play, both in overtime, 57-56 over Austin College and 71-67 against Dallas. The Ladies are currently eighth in the conference standings, just a game behind St. Thomas while the Pirates are tied for fourth place with Texas Lutheran.
The Ladies enter Friday's game ranked in the top five in the conference in rebounding offense (43.2/game), 3-point field goal percentage defense (29.3 %), and steals (9.9/game). Centenary averages 15.7 offensive rebounds per game and 27.5 defensive boards per game. Despite the Ladies' struggles this season, they have held nine of their 19 opponents to 70 points or less in a game this season.
Sophomore G Alana Jones (Shreveport, La.) is in the midst of a fantastic season for the Ladies as she is averaging 8.4 PPG and 8.8 rebounds per game as she is the SCAC's second-leading rebounder. She also ranks second in the conference in both defensive and offensive rebounds, second in minutes played, fifth in free throw %, seventh in blocked shots, eighth in steals, 11th in assists and is in the top 20 in scoring.
Jones has reached double figures in scoring six times this season and seven times in rebounding and has four double-doubles. She grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds in a 102-101 loss versus Birmingham-Southern back on Nov. 27, which is the second-most rebounds by a SCAC women's basketball player in a game this season. Those 21 rebounds are also the fourth-most in a single game in program history as she matches Anne Farrell's record set on Feb. 19, 2011.
Freshman G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) is averaging a team-best 8.9 PPG and has reached double figures an impressive eight times this season with half of those coming in conference play. Barrow is also the team leader in FG % (41.9 %) and free throw % (76.5 %). She ranks in the top 20 in the conference in scoring and is sixth in FT % and 10th in FG %.
Sophomore G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) is averaging 8.5 PPG and had a solid weekend against Trinity and Schreiner, averaging 11 PPG. She scored 10 with five rebounds in 19 minutes at Trinity on Friday and 12 with another five boards in 32 minutes against the Mountaineers and had three steals and two assists in the two games. Drumgo has now reached double figures seven times this season, five coming in conference play.
Freshman G Brailey Major (Opelousas, La.) averages 6.0 PPG and has reached double figures four times this season with three coming in conference play. Freshman F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) averages 7.6 PPG and 5.6 rebounds/game and has scored in double figures four times this season, all coming in conference games, and has recorded one double-double.
The Ladies will honor two seniors on Sunday in a pregame ceremony prior to their SCAC contest versus Texas Lutheran - senior G Patience Bates (Houston, Texas) and senior F Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas). Tip-off is set for Noon but the senior ceremony will begin at approximately 11:45 a.m.
Friday is also a special evening at the Gold Dome as Centenary athletics has partnered with the local Boys and Girls Club to collect spare change in recognition of the NCAA's "Change for the Better" initiative. Fans are encouraged to bring spare change and donate it at designated areas upon entry.
