Shreveport – The Centenary men's soccer team went toe to toe with the Colorado College Tigers on Friday night in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest before the visitors scored two late goals to break a 1-1 tie and secure a 3-1 win at Atkins Field.
The Gents (3-5-2, 1-2 SCAC) and Tigers (6-0-3, 3-0-0 SCAC) were tied 1-1 at halftime and then just over 10 minutes into the second half a power outage occurred which caused a delay of nearly an hour before play resumed.
The tie remained until the 82nd minute when the Tigers' Luke Stefanski scored to give CC a 2-1 lead as he was assisted by Jack Hilliard, who had the Tigers' first goal on a penalty kick. Ewen Robertson then scored on a PK in the final seconds of the match, his team-leading ninth goal of the season, to pad the Tigers' lead.
Tigers' GK Alex Wolter allowed just his third goal of the season and his first since allowing a pair versus Wheaton College on Aug. 30 as Gents' senior F Gabriel Aragon (Forney, Texas) scored in the 24th minute on Friday night to give the Gents a 1-0 lead. Junior D Harvey Butcher (Surrey, England) assisted Aragon as Centenary became the first team to score on Colorado College since Sept. 4 when the Tigers tied Whitman College 2-2 as CC had pitched five-consecutive shutouts coming into play on Friday. Aragon now has two goals this season as both have come in confeence play as his previous score came in the Gents' league opener at McMurry on Sept. 26.
Centenary, now 2-1-1 at home this season, tuned to senior GK Casey Clemo (Forney, Texas) as he made just his second start in the net this season for regular starter - senior Sam Brocato (Leesville, La.) who was unavailable on Friday. Clemo went the distance and made six saves.
The Tigers, now 1-0-1 on the road this season, lead the all-time series 20-3-1 and have won five in a row. CC out-shot Centenary 17-3 and each team took three corner kicks. Each team was whistled for nine fouls and three cautions were issues, all on the Tigers.
The Gents will complete the home weekend with another SCAC contest on Sunday at NOON versus the University of Dallas Crusaders (0-7-1, 0-3-0 SCAC).
