Hey Centenary Ladies fans! It's sophomore, Rose Deshler here with this week's Gym talk!
I want to start off with a quote this time: "In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity" – Albert Einstein
I chose this quote as a theme for this week's gym talk because there has been yet another minor set-back on our team caused by Covid -19. However, even though some of our team is in quarantine, we have still had some wonderful opportunities to grow as athletes, leaders, and individuals this past week. I am so proud of every single member of this team because instead of feeling defeated, we are all being positive! Because we are optimists and have a lot of determination, I believe we will come out of this upcoming season stronger than ever!
Our passion is in this sport, and in this team, and in our drive for success! This week may not have been ideal, but we have certainly made the most of it by prepping for midterms and having the opportunity to start an amazing virtual team program with a woman named Molly Grisham. Molly Grisham is a fabulous, leadership development, team building, and custom workshop expert who is going to be working with our team for an hour on Thursdays each week to develop our induvial leadership skills and our cohesiveness as a team!
So far, last Thursday was already a success! First, Molly lead us through a small introductory activity involving our ability to use some of our creative skills. This activity was a way to explain in small groups what we bring to the table as individual members of the team. It was a great introductory activity to kickstart our descend into the topic of self-leadership.
We learned self-leadership is intentionally influencing your own thoughts, feelings, and actions in pursuit of a goal. Essentially this means people need to be their own chief, captain, and CEO of their lives.
Once we have self-leadership, we can see the value in others, monitor own our journey through life, build trust through consistency and lastly, we can understand how small victories lead to great ones. Thus, seeing the opportunities in which Einstein would say, lie among difficulty.
Finally, another extremely exciting aspect about the meeting Thursday is we all had the opportunity to meet our new assistant coach Ms. Wendy Carey (via Zoom, but hey, it's better than nothing)! Welcome to the team! We are all so excited to get to know you better!
We are looking forward to continuing our leadership development, but also to getting back into the gym later this week!
Have a great week!
Yours truly, Rose Deshler
