The Ladies (1-4-2) earned a 1-1 draw against the Wiley University Wildcats last Wednesday in a non-conference contest in Marshall, Texas. The Bulldogs (0-3) fell 7-0 at Belhaven University on Sept. 19 in their last match. Centenary and Wiley were facing each other for the second time in four days following Centenary's 1-0 shutout win in Shreveport on Sept. 22. Centenary and Tougaloo are meeting for the first time on Monday.
Centenary scored first against Wiley as sophomore MF Caila Baldwin (Gretna, La.) found the net in the ninth minute for her first-career goal to give the Ladies an early 1-0 lead. Sophomore MF Sarah Crenshaw (Alexandria, La.) took a shot on goal which deflected off of Wiley GK Destiny Allison and right to Baldwin who snuck it in the goal as Crenshaw picked up her second assist of the season.
The Ladies' lead lasted until the 64th minute when Yajaira Hernandez scored her fourth goal of the season to tie the match at 1-1. Centenary sophomore GK/MF Zoe Keller (Waggaman, La.) went the distance for the Ladies in the goal and recorded five saves in her 90 minutes of action.
Centenary sophomore MF Shona Carlton (Ponchatoula, La.) scored her first-career goal to give the Ladies a 1-0 win over Wiley in the first meeting and she and Baldwin join senior MF Aubrey Burkhardt (Bossier City, La.), sophomore F/MF Lowrey Lain (Haughton, La.), and senior MF/D Desiree Rodriguez (Forney, Texas) as goal scorers for the Ladies so far this season.
Junior D/MF Kylie Zeller (Denham Springs, La.), senior D/MF Kaitlyn Bordelon (Shreveport, La.), Crenshaw, and freshman MF Sydney Hamm (Sterlington, La.) all have assists this season with Crenshaw leading the team with two.
Keller has started five games in goal for the Ladies and has made 34 saves. She has recorded one shutout and has a 1.52 GAA (goals against average). She currently ranks fourth in the conference in GAA and is tied for second in saves.
Monday's match is the first of three in a row at home for the Ladies, and they will have a quick turnaround as the University of the Ozarks Eagles are in town on Tuesday evening to open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play in a match set for 5 p.m. The homestand concludes on Friday with another SCAC contest against the University of St. Thomas Celts at 7 p.m. The Ladies were picked to finish 11th in the conference this season in the preseason poll.
