Gents Back On Home Field Tuesday Night To Face Hendrix College

The Gents (0-2) suffered a disappointing 15-14 loss to the Huntingdon College Hawks on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference contest at home after leading 11-7 with 11:42 remaining. The Gents scored 10 goals in their season opener at home on Feb. 5 against Cornell College (16-10 loss) and turned in another impressive offensive effort on Sunday.
Hendrix (0-1) opened its season at home on Saturday with a 10-7 loss to Carthage College (Wisc.). The Gents and Warriors met twice last season with Hendrix winning both games, 25-3 at home and 20-3 in Shreveport.
Sophomore midfielder Jordan Cook (Bryant, Ark.) led the Gents offensively against Huntingdon as he tied his career single-game record of five goals previously set at Dallas last season in an 18-8 Centenary win. Cook recorded the fourth multi-goal performance of his young career as he took a team-high 11 shots (10 on goal), had three ground balls, and one caused turnover. Freshman MF Marc Mackey (Houston, Texas) recorded a hat trick on Sunday after scoring two goals in the season opener as he continued to build on his impressive start to the season. Mackey took seven shots, three on goal, with a pair of ground balls.
Fellow freshman A Braxton Parchman (Shreveport, La.) scored two goals and had a team-high three assists. Parchman scored a pair of goals for the second-straight game. He added a pair of ground balls and took nine shots with six coming on goal. Freshman A G'Colby Spivey (Dallas, Texas), junior M/A Kyle Comi (Allen, Texas), junior M Dario Garcia (Dallas, Texas), and junior A John Mark Waniewski (Bossier City, La.) each scored one goal. Freshman GK Alex Nicks-Davis (Nashville, Tenn.) played all 60 minutes and recorded 16 saves.
The aggressive Gents finished with a 55-41 edge in shots which included a combined 30-16 advantage in the first and third quarters. Centenary won nine face-off opportunities (9-32) and only committed 14 turnovers to the Hawks' 21. Huntingdon was 23-32 in face-off opportunities and the Hawks wound up with 35 ground balls while the Gents finished with 28.
Parchman scored the Gents' first goal of the game with 9:30 remaining in the first period and Spivey followed with a goal four minutes later for a 2-0 lead. Waniewski scored a goal at the 4:42 mark of the first quarter off an assist from Mackey for a 3-2 Centenary lead. Mackey scored the Gents' lone goal of the second quarter as The Hawks took a 5-4 lead into the half.
Centenary erupted for five goals in the third quarter to take a 9-7 lead to the final period. Cook and Mackey each scored twice in the period and Parchman added one. The final period was a frenzy as a combined 13 goals were scored in 15 minutes, eight by the Hawks and five by the Gents. Cook scored three, and Garcia and Comi scored their goals.
Cook is the team leader in goals (6) and points (8) through the first two games of the season and Parchman leads the way with three assists. Eight Gents have found the net so far this season, six have recorded an assist and six Centenary players have tallied both a goal and an assist.
