Billy LeClair Promoted To Head Lacrosse Coach
Billy LeClair has been named Head Coach of the Centenary lacrosse program, Director of Athletics and Recreation David Orr announced. LeClair enters his third season with the Gents in 2023 after being promoted to Associate Head Coach in June, 2021.

LeClair, a native of Lake Forest, Illinois, helped lead the Maroon and White to a 4-7 season in 2022 which was punctuated with a dominant 17-3 non-conference victory over the Warren Wilson College Owls on April 15 as the Gents finished with four wins in the final five games. Centenary finished 4-1 on the road last season and after recording a 16-12 win over the Huntingdon College Hawks on April 13 in Montgomery, Ala., they wasted no time in establishing a new season high in goals in the season finale, scoring a whopping 33 goals in the final two games.
Sophomore D Matthew Lulich (New Orleans, La.) was named to the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) second team. Lulich, one of the conference's top defensive players, started all 11 games and recorded 27 ground balls (third on team), 17 caused turnovers, and one assist. Junior John Mark Waniewski (Bossier City, La.) was named to the conference's Spring Sportsmanship Team and also excelled and impressed on the field as he ranked second on the team with 21 goals and added three assists for a total of 24 points, third-most on the team.
Sophomore M/A Jordan Cook (Bryant, Ark.) scored a team-best 25 goals and added eight assists for 33 points, freshman A G'Colby Spivey (Dallas, Texas) turned in a stellar rookie season with 20 goals, five assists, and 25 points, and fellow freshman, A Braxton Parchman (Shreveport, La.) finished with 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 total points. Junior M/A Kyle Comi (Allen, Texas) had 12 goals and six assists (18 points) while freshman MF Marc Mackey (Houston, Texas) finished the season with 10 goals and five assists for 15 points.
LeClair was an integral part of Centenary's success during the 2021 season, as the Gents finished their regular season with a flourish on April 24 as the Maroon and White scored a program record number of goals in an impressive 18-8 rout of Dallas on the road. Centenary previously defeated the Crusaders, 7-4, at home on March 7 as the Gents won for the first time since reestablishing as a varsity program. The Gents also made their postseason debut as a program on April 30 as they faced Southwestern in the semifinals of the 2021 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship in Colorado Springs, Colo.
LeClair played lacrosse at Defiance College for three years and served as team captain his sophomore and junior year. His previous coaching experience includes serving as head coach for the Lake County Select 14U summer team in 2014, 2015, and 2018. LeClair also coached at Highland Park High School in Highland Park, Ill. for a year as the Head JV Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach, and then served as Head JV and Assistant Varsity Coach for Warren Township High School in Gurnee, Ill. for a year.
During his time at Warren Township, the team was runner-up for the 2019 State Championship, a first in school history. LeClair was also the head of lacrosse at Camp Starlight located in Starlight, Penn., in the summer of 2019.
