"It was a great way to start this 10-day road trip and really showcased the hard work the team has been putting in," said Centenary head coach Kaylee King. "I was very proud of them for finally getting that first win under their belt."
In game two of the day, the Ladies took on the DIII No. 4 preseason ranked Belles of Saint Mary's College. While Centenary ultimately gave up the win, the team went toe to toe with the Belles for the first half of the game heading into halftime tied 5-5. In the second half, Saint Mary's was able to pull ahead of the Ladies in the jumps and tumbling routines giving them a four-point advantage before heading into quarter four. In quarter four, the Ladies played all eight rounds but were unable to capture the points needed to close the gap even with the Belles forfeits. The game ended 19-8 in favor of the Belles.
"We had fight in game two. The first point up against Saint Mary's lit a fire and gave them the push they needed to fight the rest of the game. We put up our second most points against a team that no one anticipated we would score on. It was a kudos to how much grit the Ladies really have."
Centenary is back in action tomorrow at 9 AM and 10 AM when they play the Bruins from George Fox, last year's DIII National Champions and No. 7 ranked Heidelberg University.
