Swimming Solid In Return To Action On Saturday
The Centenary swimming teams returned to action on Saturday for the first time in nearly two months in the Austin College Invitational as the Ladies earned a second place finish with 286 points and the Gents placed third with 363 points inside Hannah Natatorium.
Sherman, Texas - The Centenary swimming teams returned to action on Saturday for the first time in nearly two months in the Austin College Invitational as the Ladies earned a second-place finish with 286 points and the Gents placed third with 363 points inside Hannah Natatorium.
The Ladies and Gents competed against the host 'Roos and McMurry University in their first regular-season competition since the "Mid-Season Invitational" hosted by Hendrix College Nov. 21-23 in Conway, Ark.
Junior Reece Esser (Huntsville, Texas) had a solid meet on Saturday as she picked up wins in the 50 free (26.55) and 100 fly (1:03.57) and earned a runner-up finish in the 100 back (1:05.34).
Sophomore Bailey Allemeier (Altus, Okla.) tallied wins in both the 1,000 free (12:15.89) and 500 free (6:04.73) while sophomore Adam Stelly (Opelousas, La.) picked up a win in the 200 free (1:52.71).
Senior Daniel Lewis (Alexandria, La.) finished third in both the 100 back (1:02.87) and 200 IM (2:222.57) and eighth in the 50 free (25.50). Sophomore Parker Randolph (Shreveport, La.) placed fourth in the 200 free (2:02.98) while freshman Kelvin Ridgley Jr. (Zachary, La.) was right behind him in fifth (2:27.66) and had a 13th-place finish in the 50 free (27.65).
In the men's 100 back, freshman Jack Williams (Lafayette, La.) was sixth as he swam a time of 1:04.39, junior Ubaldo Ayala (Hallsville, Texas) was seventh (1:07.83), and freshman George Arrona (Harlingen, Texas) finished eighth (1:14.57). Arrona also finished ninth in the 100 breast (1:30.95) and Ayala was fourth in the 200 IM (2:23.69).
Sophomore Jordan Jerrigan (Temple, Texas) finish fourth in the 200 fly (2:20.86) and sophomore Cade Campbell (Ruston, La.) finished sixth (2:41.46). Stelly finished fourth in the 50 free (24.21), Williams was fifth (24.42). Campbell was also runner-up in the 200 back (2:31.21) and Stelly recorded the Gents' top finish in the 100 fly as he placed third with a time of 57.87.
Randolph finished third in both the 400 IM (4:51.90) and 200 fly (2:09.86) and junior Cicely Jackson (Lafayette, La.) finished fourth in the 200 fly (2:35.90) and fourth in the 500 free (5:50.73). Sophomore Isabela Vasquez (Lafayette, La.) recorded a pair of third-place finishes in the 200 breast (2:44.72) and 100 breast (1:16.16).
The Gents finished fourth in the 400-yard medley relay as they swam a time of 4:06.66 and in the 200 free relay, Arrona, Campbell Jerrigan, and Randolph finished sixth (1:43.96). In the women's 200 free relay, the Ladies finished second in a time of 1:53.29, and was swam by Allemeier, Esser, Jackson, and Vasquez.
Centenary will celebrate Senior Day next Saturday for its final home meet of the season, as the Maroon and White welcome Austin College and the University of St. Thomas at 1 PM inside the Centenary Fitness Center.
