The Gents (0-2) are 0-1 on the road this season while the 'Roos (0-2) are 0-1 at home. Centenary had a bye last weekend after falling at home 50-33 to the East Texas Baptist University Tigers which was preceded by a season-opening loss (56-14) at Millsaps College on Sept. 6.
Austin College lost at home to Kalamazoo College 14-10 in its season opener and then fell 31-17 at Rhodes College in its second game. Centenary swept the season series over Austin College last season, 36-17 in Sherman, and 41-21 in Shreveport.
"The Gents are focused on getting better each week and correcting the mistakes from prior games," said head coach Byron Dawson. "Progress is a process, and our players are learning how to compete for four quarters while continuing to grow together. Austin is a well-coached team with good players. We must bring our "A" game on Saturday. We are determined to bring energy, discipline, and improvement on the road."
The Gents are averaging 402.5 yards per game of total offense (335.0 passing and 67.5 rushing) and 23.5 PPG.
Gents' Individual Season Statistical Leaders
PASSING: Senior QB/LB Vance Feuerbacher (Plano, Texas) – 49-72 for 615 yards (5 TD and 1 INT)
RECEIVING: Senior WR Trent Smith (Shreveport, La.) – 5 catches for 83 yards and 1 TD
RUSHING: Senior QB Zin'Tavious Smith (Coushatta, La.)– 7 attempts for 57 yards and 1 TD
TACKLES: Freshman DB TJ Ranson (New Orleans, La.) – 18 total tackles (8 solo) with 2.5 TFL
Feuerbacher etched his name into the SCAC record book against ETBU on Sept. 20 as he passed for 500 yards, which is the third-most yards all-time in a single game for a SCAC quarterback in conference history.
Feuerbacher, named the SCAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, completed 31 of 48 passes and threw for five touchdowns and also scored on a 2-point conversion run and punted and kicked off.
The single-game record for passing yards is 513 by Rhodes College's Craig Solomon versus Principia on Nov. 4, 1978 and the No. 2 record is 506 yards by Trinity University's Mike Burton against West Maryland on Nov. 21, 1998.
LOOKING AHEAD:
Centenary begins Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play next Saturday, Oct. 11 at home versus Texas Lutheran University, on Oct. 18 the Gents are at Lyon College in Batesville, Ark., and they close the month of October at home versus McMurry University for a conference contest on Oct. 25.
Centenary will face Hendrix College on Nov. 1 in Conway, Ark. and are back home on Nov. 8 to face Austin College again to close the regular season. Saturday's meeting between the Gents and 'Roos does not count as a conference contest, just the Nov. 8 meeting in Shreveport.
The SCAC will feature a new and exciting format for determining its league champion next season as all six schools (Austin College, Centenary, Hendrix, Lyon, McMurry, and TLU) will meet on Nov. 15 in Little Rock, Ark. for championship weekend held at War Memorial Stadium with an exciting day featuring three games - the No. 5 versus the No. 6 seed, the No. 3 seed versus the No. 4 seed, and the top two seeds playing each other.
