SHREVEPORT-Despite battling No. 17 Missouri and facing an initial schedule change, the Centenary women's gymnastics team entertained a home crowd, recording several strong performances before falling 195.00-189.800 to the Tigers on Sunday afternoon in the Gold Dome.
The Ladies remained consistent throughout the competition as 11 gymnasts performed in the four scheduled events for Centenary. Both teams supported Breast Cancer awareness and the Susan G. Komen Foundation by wearing pink in the Ladies' "ThiNk PiNk" themed meet.
Centenary opened the competition on Vault as junior Alyssa Zawieja and freshman Amanda Holt posted top scores for the Ladies, each with a 9.650. Though, two solid performances, Missouri was able to clinch the top three spots as Alex Gold led all scorers with a 9.850.
On Bars, Centenary junior Makensie Lant finished with a team-best 9.800, good enough for third place overall. Leading the way on Bars was Missouri's Becky Scholle with a 9.800.
In the third rotation, the Ladies found themselves battling a strong Tiger's lineup, however, freshman Jessica Lieblich posted a team-high 9.800 for a third place finish. She followed Sarah Shire who took home top honors with an impressive 9.925.
Centenary rounded out the competition with the Floor exercise. Ladies' senior Whitney Daugherty posted a 9.650 to lead Centenary, however it was Shire who again, placed first for Missouri with a 9.850.
Junior Marisa Schneider battled four all-around competitors for Missouri, but wrapped up the competition with a third place finish and a 37.950 score. Shire led the way for the Tigers with a 39.350.
Centenary will be back in action on February 19 at Illinois-Chicago.
