Hey Ladies Fans! It's Freshman Olivia Stratmann here with this week's Gym Talk!
This week was an exciting one to say the least. We had a very insightful team meeting with Coach Meg discussing different breathing tools our team can use as we enter into prep week and then final exams. We are pushing strong through our final weeks of school before break in our classes and in the gym.
We were excited to host two recruits on campus and were able to give them an idea of what the Ladies are all about. Our team dinner at Marilynn's Place was a time to get to know the recruits and bond as a team. We had fun catching up and are very grateful for the beignets that Richard the owner surprised us with at the end of dinner. The recruits were able to watch our practice on Saturday and witnessed my team (the maroon team) DOMINATE over the white team!! The team split up into maroon vs white and tried to build up as many points as possible for stuck dismounts on bars and beam and stuck tumbling passes in our floor routines. On the maroon team, shout out to Rose Deshler for sticking 5/5 of her beam dismounts and Carissa Martinez for a beautiful HIT beam routine WITH a stuck dismount! I was able to give my team some bonus points for getting my giant full over on bars (1st time since surgery!), Roxy Myers was hitting some beam dismounts, and Lacey Wedge was a superstar on floor, sticking her sky-high double pike and her front layout punch front full! The white team was not far behind us though. Kendall Huff was on fire sticking her beam dismounts after coming back from being sick and Emma Lavelle's stick on her double layout dismount on bars made the entire team go crazy! Way to go Ladies!
Aside from killing it in the gym, the Ladies have more talents than just gymnastics. Senior Rose Deshler was able to highlight her musical talents by singing the national anthem at the women's basketball game this past weekend and did an amazing job! We cannot wait until we get to hear her singing for our home meets again in the Gold Dome this season.
To wrap things up I am excited to say that we are about a month away from our Team Intrasquad!! This is your reminder to come out and support the gymnastics team on Sunday, January 8th at 4pm in the Gold Dome. We cannot wait to see you all there!
Thanks for checking in this week, and don't forget to come back next week for Sophie's recap!
