Ladies Set For Pair Of Road Meets This Weekend
The Centenary gymnastics team is back on the road this weekend for a pair of meets, beginning with a tri-meet against host Illinois State University and Bowling Green on Friday at 7 p.m. inside CEFCU Arena.

The Ladies defeated the Hamline University Pipers in a non-conference dual meet on Saturday night in their home opener at the Gold Dome, 186.700-185.100. Centenary's best event score was a 47.950 on both floor and vault followed by a 45.525 on beam and then a 45.275 on bars.
Illinois State, a fellow Midwest Independent Conference member alongside the Ladies, fell at home to Northern Illinois University on Friday and then finished second in a tri-meet on Sunday at NIU with Winona State. The Redbirds, currently ranked 50th in the latest Road to Nationals rankings, are 1-2 at home this season. Bowling Green, 58th in RTN, is winless this season and fell at Central Michigan last Friday. Centenary and Bowling Green have never faced each other. The Ladies enter the weekend ranked 67th in the RTN rankings.
Centenary's average score for the season is 188.717 with a high of 191.325 on Jan. 20 in its second meet of the season against host Texas Woman's University, Air Force, and Wisconsin-Eau Claire in Denton, Texas.
Freshman Amy Foret (Bedford, Texas) the current MIC Newcomer of the Week, continued the impressive start to her rookie season by winning the All-Around competition in the Ladies' victory over Hamline on Saturday. Foret earned a 37.350 highlighted by a victory on floor with a season-best 9.825 score – the highest by a Centenary gymnast all season in the event. She also finished fourth on vault with a 9.475.
She finished second in the All-Around competition with a season-best 38.025 in the TWU quad meet on Jan. 20 and finished third in the All-Around competition with a 37.125 score in the Ladies' season opener against SEMO and Greenville University in Cape Girardeau, Mo. on Jan. 14.
Sophomore Emma Lavelle (Mandeville, La.) finished second in the All-Around with a 36.900 as she competed in the AA for the first time this season. Lavelle's won the beam competition with a season-high 9.675 followed by a 9.450 on vault to place fifth.
Senior Kendall Huff (Riviera, Texas) earned a season-high 9.625 on vault to finish third, and scored a season-high tying 9.150 on bars to finish fifth. Sophomore Carissa Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.) had an outstanding meet as she earned a new career-high 9.70 on vault to win the event, tying with her teammate, senior Leilani Johnson (Wichita, Kan.).
Martinez also set a new career high on floor (9.750) to finish second behind Foret. Johnson competed on floor for the first time this season and finished fifth with a 9.575. She also tied for sixth place on beam with Foret.
Freshman Sophie Schmitz (Trophy Club, Texas) won the bars competition with a 9.450 and junior Isabel Plaza (San Antonio, Texas) finished third with a career-high 9.225. Schmitz earned her first-career win and top finish of the season. Senior Kennedy Stephens (Bella Vista, Ark.) earned a 9.475 on floor to finish sixth.
The Ladies will wrap up the weekend on Sunday versus MIC member and host Lindenwood University and Greenville University in St. Louis, Mo. for a tri-meet at 1 p.m.
