What's up Ladies' fans! Did you miss us? Well, y'all are in for a treat because the freshmen are here for this week's gym talk takeover! We have had such an exciting and memorable first year as being Centenary Ladies. They aren't lying when they say it's going to go by fast because this first year sure flew by. The four of us came into this year with a unique start. On the day we were set to move into the dorms we found out that our head coach was leaving for another job opportunity. After many challenges and adversities faced during the first half of our fall semester, we were blessed with our lovely coaches of Coach Meg and Coach Joseph who saved the day and gave us a freshman season for the books! This only made us grow closer as a class because we went through it together. There are many, many thank you's to go around to all of our teammates who took us in and showed us what it means to be a part of this team!
Sophie: My first year of being a lady is ending, and all I can say is I can't wait to see what is in store for me and the team in these next couple of years. This year was certainly one to remember, from starting out with the transitioning of coaches on my first day here, to an amazing trip to Paris, and to ending my season as a national's qualifier. So many great memories and moments to be remembered and shared from my experience this year. I am also so thankful to all my teammates for making those experiences worthwhile. One of my favorite memories from this year was kayaking out on the lake with Emma Lavelle and Taylor Wilson during our team retreat, trying not to think about the alligators! So many great friendships and bonds within the team came out of this trip, just in time to set us up for the season. I'll catch y'all next year…later!
Claire: This year has FLOWN by! I can't believe that my freshman year is over in less than two weeks. My first year of being a Centenary Lady was certainly one to remember. It felt like the odds were stacked against me at times but I'm so thankful that I had my team there for me through it all. I met some of my best friends this year and they all mean the world to me. This past year gave me a new perspective on gymnastics and life. I took on a different role than I normally do and that was being a cheerleader for my teammates. After having shoulder surgery and having a much slower recovery than anticipated, I had many moments of disappointment and struggle but in that struggle, I found my ability to be there for my team in a new way. Just because I was not contributing to the team gymnastics wise, didn't mean that I couldn't contribute to the team at all. I found joy in my teammates' successes and strove to be the best cheerleader I could, and let me just say… I HAD SO MUCH FUN! I made so many great memories. From the team retreat to the PowerPoint and dip nights, to the new year's parties, and volunteering in the middle of the woods! I loved it all and I can't wait to see what my sophomore year has in store. Freshman Claire Flores signing off! Talk to y'all next year and GO LADIES!
Olivia: I cannot believe I have less than two more weeks left of my freshman year. Although this year did not go as I was expecting, my injury and 2 resulting surgeries have only made me more excited to come back stronger for next season!! I have been on crutches, then a knee scooter, and even on what my teammates called a "pirate leg" haha! All these different contraptions have helped me regain my strength when I was unable to put pressure on my foot. Supporting my teammates from the sidelines was a difficult adjustment to make, but after talking to my coaches and friends, I was able to realize that my role on the sidelines is just as important as those that are competing. Throughout the year, traveling to Paris, creating new friendships, traveling with my teammates, and sliding down an outdoor slide at the City Museum in St. Louis with Roxanne Myers are some of my favorite memories. I have been able to get involved on campus and have the opportunity to serve as a sophomore senator next year which is something I am looking forward to. I am excited for my years to come as a Lady and cannot wait to be back in the Gold Dome!! Signing off!
Amy: It is so hard to even believe that my freshman year has come to an end. It feels like the season has just started. In fact, it feels like I was just going to Paris with my other freshman friends. I will cherish all the memories forever of competing, traveling, and fun times with my team at Centenary. Competing as a Lady on the gymnastics team has truly been an honor and a blast. I never expected college gymnastics, more specifically, Centenary gymnastics to be so fun! Making new friends and competing with a dedicated team has been fulfilling. One of my favorite memories from this year was going on our team retreat to this beautiful lake, staying in a cool lake house. I loved all the games and adventures out on the lake, whether it was on the kayak with Rose Deshler, Emma Lavelle, Kennedy Stevens, or taking pictures with the girls on the shore. I am very much looking forward to competing next season with my team with all the cheering and hugs! I am even more excited to make many new memories with my team and create new bonds with the incoming freshman! See y'all next time!!
Thanks for tuning in and listening to some fun memories and experiences from your SOON TO BE sophomore class! Catch y'all on the flippity flip! ;)
