Hello Ladies fans! I am Amy Foret, a freshman on the Centenary gymnastics team.
Hello Ladies fans! I am Amy Foret, a freshman on the Centenary gymnastics team.
In the last week, the ladies have been training very hard in preparation for the intrasquad this Sunday. We were getting very excited and fired up for the intrasquad coming up. Thursday was my first time helping the team set up the Gold Dome. The ladies have a system and are very efficient! As we were setting, I became even more excited about Sundays intrasquad! The rest of the week, we practiced in the Gold Dome. Practice was fun for me and very efficient for everyone in the Gold Dome. We were still out on break from school this past week, so we had time to get together for dinners and activities. Friday night, The Ladies went over to former coach Jackie's house and dressed up as their character for a murder mystery game. We had a blast with this activity! Rylie, the Mayor, murdered Leilani, the social media star. We shared many laughs with each other that brought us even closer as a team. The next night after a hardworking and successful practice at the Dome Saturday, the Ladies had dinner at coach Meg's house. Parents who had arrived early for the intrasquad were also invited to attend. One of my main goals other than gymnastics is to get very close with the Centenary gymnastics team and I feel like these activities over break, including the week before last, has really allowed us to become even closer. This makes me so happy and excited for future meetings with my team!
Since it was my very first time having an intrasquad in the Dome with the Ladies, I was so pumped! I was so excited to participate in the intrasquad by doing Vault, Beam, and Floor! Even though it was the last night of school break, we brought in a decent size crowd, which made it even more exciting! We had guest judges for the evening: Chief Eddie Walker, Mark Miller and Vindala, Byron Dawson who is the Centenary Football coach, and Jackie Fain, our former gymnastics coach. They had fun "judging" the routines and being up close to the action. The intrasquad went extremely well considering it was our first time having a crowd! We started out on vault. Lacey Wedge landed her sky-high front pike and Carissa Martinez landed her beautiful full! It felt amazing doing a vault for the first time in the Dome in front of the Centenary crowd. Now onto bars, the ladies looked beautiful for the start of the season! There were hit handstands and made major releases from these Ladies.
Freshman Sophie Schmitz debuted her very first bar routine in the Dome! Shout out to Kendall Huff for hitting a beautiful overshoot to handstand in her routine! Next the Ladies moved onto beam. The Ladies had some nerves going into beam, but we believed in ourselves and pushed through for a solid start of the season on beam! Shout out to Kennedy Stephens for hitting an outstanding solid beam routine with great confidence! With Rylie Molina coming back from a shoulder injury, she put together a beautiful beam routine with a rock solid and stuck beam series! Last event but not least, Floor! Floor was so fun to show off, and the Ladies looked great presenting their floor routines and dance! Everyone was getting into the floor routines and cheering so loudly! This was very exciting not only for me, but for everyone! Emma Lavelle made an amazing and wonderful powerful double pike on the floor. In fact, everyone made their double backs in their routines! Kennedy Stephens made her second pass on point! The intrasquad ended with a bang and we were happy with how it had turned out. We know where we have room for improvement and will be putting in the work this week to make the changes for the upcoming meets! Our first Competition is this Saturday with SEMO and Greenville in the Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and we are pumped!
I am so excited to see how the rest of the season will go for all the Ladies! I am pumped to experience competing in college with a new and amazing team all season! I can't wait to get closer the team and coaches!
