Ladies Earn Second-Best Score Of Season On Saturday
The Centenary gymnastics team finished second on Saturday evening to the Texas Woman's University Pioneers in the Rose City Classic at The Oil Palace.
Tyler, Texas- The Centenary gymnastics team finished second on Saturday evening to the Texas Woman's University Pioneers in the Rose City Classic at The Oil Palace.
The Ladies earned a 191.175, their second-highest score of the season, while the Pioneers won with a 195.650 score. Centenary's top event score of the night was a season-high 48.350 on floor followed by two more season-bests- a 48.100 on vault and a 47.925 on bars. The Ladies also recorded a 46.800 on beam.
Centenary and TWU were meeting for the third time this season, after the Maroon and White placed third in a quad meet hosted by the Pioneers in January and then TWU edged Centenary, 191.700-189.525, in a Midwest Independent Conference dual meet on Feb. 10 at the Gold Dome.
Freshman Amy Foret (Bedford, Texas) won the All-Around competition with a career-high 38.225, winning the AA for the second meet in a row and third time this season. She earned three top-10 finishes on beam (8th), vault (10th), and floor (T-6th). She also placed 11th on bars with a 9.375. Foret tied with TWU's Kyla Podges on floor with a 9.725, scored a 9.575 on vault, a 9.55 on bean, and a 9.725 on floor.
Senior Taylor Ann Wilson (Memphis, Tenn.) tied for first on bars with a season-high 9.825, nearly matching her career-high score of 9.85. Wilson tied with TWU's Brooke Ferrari for the bars title. Senior Leilani Johnson (Wichita, Kan.) earned a career-high 9.80 on floor to finish fourth, and sophomore Carissa Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.) also recorded a new career-high on floor (9.775) to finish fifth. Martinez nearly matched her career-high score on vault (9.725) as she earned a 9.70 to place sixth.
Senior Kendall Huff (Riviera, Texas) scored a 9.675 on vault to place eighth and Johnson finished ninth with a 9.60. Senior Rose Deshler (Hastings, Minn.) was the Ladies' top finisher on beam (sixth place) with a 9.65. Freshman Sophie Schmitz (Trophy Club, Texas) recorded a career-high 9.70 on bars to place eighth and sophomore Emma Lavelle (Mandeville, La.) nearly matched her career-high score (9.625) on bars with a 9.60 to finish ninth.
The Ladies will host Lindenwood University on Saturday, March 11 on Senior Night in a dual MIC meet set for 5 p.m.
