Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: April 19 Edition
Wow! I can’t believe we are already at the end of season and graduation is right around the corner! I feel like just yesterday was my first day on the job. I guess the saying is true that time flies when you’re having fun!

As I take time to reflect back on the season, I can't help but smile and be proud. These Ladies started off their school year a little rocky with some unexpected coaching changes, leaving them to guide themselves for the majority of preseason until Coach Joseph and I arrived. Because of that, when official practices started, they were further behind than anticipated. Some may have counted them out at that point, but one of the Ladies core values is perseverance, which they showed time and time again throughout this season.
The Ladies started off the season with a bang, scoring their highest season opening score in 15 years! Then went on to beat that score the following weekend! For the next few meets though we had individual highlights, the Ladies struggled with consistency overall. Again, the Ladies showed their perseverance, continuing to push themselves in the gym physically and mentally. They never let up, and on senior night, the Ladies scored their highest team score since 2015 when they hit big with a 192.475!
This year we also had 8, yes I said 8, individuals qualify to USAG Collegiate Nationals! It was a great 3 days of competition, ending with 4 of our girls receiving All-American honors: Taylor Wilson First Team All-American on Bars, Carissa Martinez First Team All-American on Floor, Amy Foret Second Team All American on Floor and Sophie Schmitz Second Team All-American on Bars. But my favorite part about the whole competition was when the rest of the team drove to Denton, TX to watch and cheer on their teammates. The love and support these Ladies have for each other is amazing!
I truly can't believe that my first season as the head coach for the Centenary Ladies has come to an end, but I can say without a doubt that I am excited for next season! Keep an eye out on social media as we have some fun announcements coming up.
And be sure check back in next week to read about the freshman class's first year experience!
Until next time,
Coach Meg
