Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: Jan. 25 Edition
Hello Ladies Gymnastics fans! Welcome back to another Gym Talk.
Hello Ladies Gymnastics fans! Welcome back to another Gym Talk.
We are now two meets into the 2023 season and your Ladies are crushing it. We started it off with a bang by earning the highest season-opening score in the DIII era. We continued that momentum last week in the gym leading up to our 2nd meet of the season at Texas Woman's University.
This Friday was TWU's Cancer Awareness Meet. We all wore different colored ribbons in honor of our loved ones that have been affected by cancer.
The energy was amazing. It was great to have so many of our friends and family there, forming our own little Centenary Gymnastics fan section.
We started the meet off on beam and absolutely crushed it. Our goal was to go for the HIT and that's exactly what we did. Our beam squad HIT 6/6 routines and really set the tone for the rest of the meet. Shout out to Leilani Johnson, Amy Foret, and Carissa Martinez for all scoring career highs.
We carried this energy with us to the next event where we had ourselves a floor party. Our Floor Roars really put on a show demonstrating lots of personality and some sky-high tumbling. Shout out to Lacey Wedge and myself for earning new career high scores.
Next, we went to vault where our resident vault shaker, Lacey Wedge, tied her career high with a beautiful front handspring front pike. We ended the meet on bars where Emma Lavelle, Sophie Schmitz, Izzie Plaza, and Amy Foret all scored career highs. And Taylor Ann Wilson closed us out in the anchor spot with her spectacular routine earning her 1st place.
Overall it was such an exciting night. As Roxanne Myers said, "Somebody call 911 because the Ladies are on fire!"
Even though we had several career highs, there is always room for improvement. The Ladies are continuing to build our confidence and work on the little details. We are more determined than ever and are so excited for our home meet this Saturday, where we will honor alumna Sylvia Keiter. We can't wait to see you all there at 5 PM in the Gold Dome on January 28th!
Check back next week for Leilani's Gym Talk!
