Shreveport – The Centenary lacrosse team has been selected as Centenary Athletics' "Team of the Week" after the Gents opened their season last Saturday at home with a dominating 27-10 victory over the LaGrange College Panthers in a non-conference contest at Atkins Field.
The Gents (1-0) tied their program record for goals in a game against the Panthers (0-1) and tied the all-time series 2-2 and have won two in a row after a 13-10 win last season in LaGrange, Ga.
Sophomore A Noah Walsh (Mount Prospect, Ill.) made an immediate impact in his Gents' debut as he scored a whopping eight goals and tallied seven assists, both of which led the team, and he set a new program record for points in a game with 15. Walsh's 15 points are also the sixth-most in a single game by a D3 player in NCAA history.
The Gents took a 16-4 halftime lead and cruised to the victory. Walsh, a transfer from Anderson University, scored two goals in the first quarter, three in the second, two in the third, and one in the fourth. Sophomore A Gamble Harvill (Bossier City, La.) was right behind Walsh with seven goals, and freshman O/MF Aiden McQuat (Lafayette, La.) scored five. Freshman GK Jake Huff (Carlisle, Mass.) started and made seven saves.
Centenary returns to action on Saturday at home against Hendrix College at 3 PM.
