Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: Sept. 22 Edition
Hello Ladies Fans, It's Senior Madison McCary with this week’s gym talk!
Hello Ladies Fans,
It's Senior Madison McCary with this week's gym talk!
We had a very productive week since we did our Landmarks last Sunday! With classes, practice, conditioning, and study hall we had a week packed in with work. On Tuesday afternoon, we had our equipment check-out! This is always a very exciting day for our freshmen because they get to see our gear for the first time!
Wednesday consisted of a dark and early 6am open gym. We use these early days to really hone in our basics and drills. Even though it was early in the morning, the Ladies worked their hardest focusing on base skills and technique! Wednesday night, Ladies volleyball took the win against Jarvis Christian, and some of our Lady gymnasts got the chance to volunteer and help work the game! We love to support other teams when they need us! Of course, supporting and helping others is part of what makes us Ladies after all.
Thursday morning, the Ladies put the "team" in teamwork, and ran a mile all together in what we call our "catch-up run". This is when we all run in a single file line and the person in the back has to sprint to the front, once they get to the front the next person has to sprint and so on. We improved our team time by almost 30 secs from last week and made the mile in 7:50!!! Track stars or gymnasts?? ;)
Through the weekend we have been gearing up for the season and upcoming intra-squads, by putting routines together and upgrading our skills! Saturday the seniors decided we should start off with a beam intrasquad! Our beam queens showcased our routines and each of them truly stepped up to the challenge. A big shout out to Kendall Sanders who threw her new series on high beam, Leilani Johnson for overcoming her fears, and Kennedy Stephens who showed what an aggressive beam routine looks like.
Sunday was "PJ" day so of course we had to take our traditional picture where we sleep in the pit with our pajamas on! The we had a fun open gym doing some "speed gymnastics" where we had a certain amount of time to work on a specific thing. We then split up into two groups to focus on vault, having one group doing a circuit of drills and the other group vaulting over the table. We capped Sunday night off with a fun hour of Ninja training with our guest coach Justin! It was hilarious to see these talented gymnasts try new things, you'd be surprised how not coordinated they are!
This week was so much fun and I cannot wait to see what this season has in store for us. The hard work and dedication our team puts into school, gymnastics, and extracurriculars is what drives us to succeed, and no doubt will we continue to do so as we progress into the season.
Catch you on the flip side!
