Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: March 15 Special Double Edition
Please enjoy this Special Double Edition Of Gym Talk!
Hey Ladies Fans,
It's Sophomore Izzie here with our weekly recap of how your Ladies are doing. Following our crazy week in Denton the Ladies carried that energy to our second home meet of the year. This was a very special meet. Not only were we honoring a past gymnast, Sylvia Keiter, who was tragically killed in a drunk driving incident in 2018, but we also celebrated the legacy of our head coach Jackie Fain who has led Centenary Gymnastics for eleven seasons. Leading up to this meet, the Ladies have been fighting hard for lineup spots and we are working hard for depth on every event. New head coach Brittany Harris has been shaking things up in the gym and our team is looking stronger than ever.
Practices leading up to the meet were full of energy and determination. The coaches have really been focusing on the small details and encouraging us to fight for everything we do. More and more girls are fighting for a lineup position and are giving the coaches hard decisions to make. All of us are working hard whether they are in or out of lineup, one might say we have the best cheerleading squad out there. Sophomore Roxy Myers leads the way as one of the most supportive teammates.
We have a new vault shaker in our midst; Junior Taylor Wilson made her debut in the lineup last meet at TWU and is proving more and more every day she is a vault shaker. We had two Sylvia Sticks on vault during the meet, our leadoff Freshman Emma Lavelle, and Junior Kendall Huff. Our Ladies have really been focusing on seeing their landings and finding that stick.
We have really been finding our footing on bars and we are gaining depth we have never had before. More and more girls are getting consistent routines and have been looking to take their place in lineup. Freshman Chloe Armentor has been working hard on her intentionality in her routines and it shows. We are excited to see her back and better than ever in bar lineup. Our senior, Madison McCary has been working hard to get consistent on her new dismount and she has become a force to be reckoned with in a meet. Shout out to Junior Taylor Wilson on her huge bar routine that scored a 9.8.
The Beam Queens have been proving their consistency all week and have been fighting for lineup spots. We got to see Junior Kennedy Stephens season debut second in the beam lineup. With a big Sylvia stick and an even bigger 9.775. The Ladies are proving every single day that a calm and confident beam queen wins the day.
Floor practice all week was electric and the Ladies gave the coaches a hard decision. They had sky-high tumbling and beautiful leaps. The floor roars showed off their Lady presentation and really showed who they were through their dance. We always love putting on our cowboy hats and dancing with Junior Kendall Huff as she nails her routine and shows us her Texas side. Our Senior Kendall Sanders shows us every day why she is our floor anchor. She always brings the power and the presentation to her floor routine, and she earned a well-deserved 9.8.
Overall, we have been making strides every day by focusing on the tiny details. We always love making our coaches work a little bit to make lineups. Watch out for what we do next. This is Sophomore Izzie signing off and passing the mic over to Sophomores Rylie Molina and Roxy Myers.
Hello Ladies Gymnastics fans!! It's Rylie and Roxy here otherwise known as R2 and we are super excited to fill y'all in on this year's senior week for the Ladies. We started school back on Monday after a much need Mardi Gras break where we got to spend some extra time having fun in the gym. We took a vacation from the beloved Jills and got to practice in the Gold Dome this week.
Moving on to the big day, as the Ladies walked into the locker room, that is always decorated so nicely thanks to our lovely parents (we love you!), we were all so shocked and excited to see the competition leotards that were hanging in our lockers. The seniors had been begging Coach Jackie to wear this leotard all week, but Jackie assured them they had been eaten by mice, so the seniors were stoked to see them in their lockers. Fun fact; this leo was the first competition leo Coach Jackie designed as head coach of the Centenary Gymnastics team, so this was a big deal and super sentimental.
This team was so determined to have a great senior meet. We worked hard to build more depth on events than ever before. In fact, fifteen of our Ladies suited up this weekend and they surely did show up and show out as we hit a season high score of 191.575. We went six for six on vault which was a great start to what was a great meet. Junior Lacey Wedge received her career high score on vault getting a 9.7. Our team score on vault, a 48.275 was the highest we have scored since 2015!
Moving on to bars, the bar stars continued their fight and had some sticky feet as four of our bar swingers finished their routines with stuck landings! Junior Taylor Ann Wilson received a season high bar score of 9.85, Senior Xian Baumgartner received a season high bar score of 9.55 and Senior Kendall Sanders aka baby received a season high bar score of 9.725.
Next up we moved on to beam and yours truly, sophomore Rylie Molina, tying a career high beam score of 9.65, leading the Ladies off strong. In addition to her incredible bar routine, Senior Xian Baumgartner received a season high beam score of 9.675. The Ladies did some (as Coach Jackie would say) BIG BODACIOUS BEAM – BBB, on senior night and it was so much fun!
Finally, we finished the meet on floor hitting all six competition routines as well as two exhibition routines and breaking a few records in the process. Senior Xian Baumgartner finished her third event of the night going out with a bang and a career high score, receiving a 9.75. Junior Rose Deshler received a career high of 9.6 and Junior Kendall Huff tied her career high of 9.725. Our Lady floor RAWRS received a team floor score of 48.575, the highest we have scored since 2018. Just to top off the night of season highs, Senior Kendall Sanders got a career high all-around score of 38.875.
We finished the meet off by celebrating our beloved seniors. This 2022 class is a class to remember. Madison McCary, Xian Baumgartner, Kendall Knaps and Kendall Seniors all took their final bow in the Gold Dome along with our Head Coach Jackie Fain. There will never be another Madicinnimon roll, Cayenne pepper, Ginger Snap, Baby Back Ribs or Pepper Jack, but their legacy will live on forever and their memories will last all of our lifetimes. We love them with all of our hearts and will miss them dearly but are excited to see what their next chapters of life have in store for them.
That's all for this week's gym talk, tune in next week to hear about the behind the scenes of MIC's week! WE LOVE YOU LADIES GYMNASTICS FANS,
XOXO, your favorite Sophomore duo, R2
