Hey Ladies Fans! Junior Kendall Huff here with this week's gym talk!
This past week was a very fun and exciting one for the Ladies! Coming off a bye weekend, we had a long and amazing trip to Alaska for a double meet weekend! We arrived late Wednesday night in Anchorage, Alaska. The next day, we did some of the fun touristy things. We ate lunch at a cute little place and then went to downtown Anchorage for some souvenir shopping and exploring. We then had a light practice in the Alaska Airlines Center.
Friday was our first meet day of two! Our team activity that morning was to go outside and explore! Behind our hotel was a little hill that went down into a frozen lake. Mr. Dan fell through the ice walking on it! Good thing he tested it out for us! Of course, we couldn't resist the urge to go sledding down the hill, so we found some cardboard boxes and had the time of our life. Minnesota native, Rose Deshler, showed all of us how it was done.
Now on to the meet! There were so many amazing things that happened at the meet versus the University of Alaska Anchorage. Madison McCary made her college debut on bars after almost 3 years of fighting back from injuries! She performed a beautiful bar routine with a huge Tkatchev! What a way to celebrate her 21st birthday! Taylor Wilson made her college debut on beam with a huge 9.725. Leilani Johnson and I tied for 1st on vault, followed by Kendall Sanders; Emma Lavelle placed second on floor; and in the all-around Kendall Sanders placed 1st and Emma Lavelle placed 3rd!
Saturday was our fun day! We made an hour trek through breathtaking scenery to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center where we saw all sorts of species native to Alaska, such as brown bears, wolves, and reindeer! I didn't even know reindeers truly existed! We also had fun sledding! It was such a cool experience. We then went to a ski resort where we ate dinner and made a huge snowman as a team!
Sunday was the second meet day of the weekend. Again, there were plenty of highs at this meet as well! Taylor Wilson debuted her floor routine in the exhibition spot; Kendall Sanders placed 1st on vault, followed by me (Kendall Huff), and Emma Lavelle and Leilani Johnson tied for 3rd; on bars Kendall Sanders placed 3rd; on beam Emma Lavelle placed 3rd; on floor Kendall Sanders placed 2nd; and in the all-around Kendall Sanders placed 1st with a huge 38.75 and Emma Lavelle placed 3rd. We were fed a delicious dinner after the meet by Centenary alum Valerie Robideaux and her husband! What a small world. They also provided us with a place to rest and prepare for our long trip home and we couldn't be more grateful for their hospitality!
The Ladies made memories that will last a lifetime and are now back to the reality of school! Don't forget to check back in next week to see what the Ladies have been up to!
XOXO
