Shreveport - Sophomore Molly English (Newnan, Ga.) is this week's recipient of the Coaches' Choice Award, the Midwest Independent Conference announced on Wednesday.
English earned one of the four individual honors that the conference chooses on a weekly basis and received it for the first in her career and was named a co-winner with Jordan Loock of Texas Woman's University.
Here is what Centenary head coach Meg Crowley had to say about Molly:
"Last year, Molly tore her ACL while competing her first bar routine in college, an opportunity she had worked incredibly hard to earn. Her journey in gymnastics has not been an easy one. She has battled significant mental blocks and anxiety, and prior to college had not consistently been held to daily expectations of showing her skills. Yet when she arrived, she embraced the challenge, put in the work, and rose to the moment—only to suffer a devastating injury. Since then, her comeback has required patience, resilience, and humility. She dedicated her entire summer and fall to rehab and rebuilding."
"What makes her so deserving of this award is not just her perseverance in rehab, but the unwavering loyalty and selflessness she has shown toward her team in the midst of her own uncertainty. Even when she isn't dressing out in a leotard, Molly shows up every single day as a teammate. This week was the perfect example. With basketball games in the Gold Dome Saturday night and many of our usual volunteers away for Mardi Gras break, we were short-handed for our late-night meet setup. Without hesitation, Molly volunteered to come help. She stayed the entire time and was willing to do whatever was needed—no job too big, no job too small. That same servant-hearted mindset carried into meet day. Whether it was grabbing snacks for teammates, laying out the lineups, handing out sandwiches, filling water bottles, or stepping in wherever there was a need, Molly was ready.
"Many athletes in her position might pull away during a season of doubt. Molly has done the opposite. She has leaned in. She has chosen her team. She has modeled what it means to put "team first" in its purest form. I am incredibly proud of the maturity, character, and selflessness Molly has displayed. Regardless of where her gymnastics journey ultimately leads, the way she is showing up right now embodies everything this program stands for."
