Baseball On Road To Open SCAC Play At Schreiner This Weekend
The Centenary baseball team opens Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend as the Diamond Gents will face the Schreiner University Mountaineers in a three-game series beginning on Friday at 2 PM at Bob Henry Field.

Kerrville, Texas – The Centenary baseball team opens Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend as the Diamond Gents will face the Schreiner University Mountaineers in a three-game series beginning on Friday at 2 PM at Bob Henry Field.

The Diamond Gents (2-2) and Mountaineers (0-3) will wrap up the series on Saturday with a doubleheader at NOON. Centenary finished its season-opening weekend on a strong note on Sunday with a 13-5 win over the Whittier College Poets in Whittier, Calif. The Maroon and White began the trip by losing two of three to Occidental College in Los Angeles.
This weekend's games against the Mountaineers are the first three of 30 SCAC contests this season with 15 on the road and 15 at home. Schreiner took two of three games from Centenary last season in Shreveport but the Diamond Gents have dominated the all-time series, leading 30-6.
The Diamond Gents were picked to finish sixth in the conference this season and earned 67 points. The Mountaineers were picked to finish ninth. The 2026 SCAC Baseball Tournament will be held at The Depot at Cleburne Station in Cleburne, Texas as the double-elimination tournament will begin on April 30.
Sophomore 3B Aron Gillum (Shreveport, La.) had a monster opening weekend as he hit a sizzling .429 (6-14) with four RBI, a three-run home run, a double, five runs scored, two BB, and a stolen base. He posted three multi-hit games and tied his career-high of four RBI on Saturday against Occidental. Gillum finished with an on-base percentage of .529 and slugged .714 with 10 total bases.
Sophomore LHP Roman Ardoin (Lumberton, Texas) got off to a strong start as he tossed 5.2 innings in a 4-3 win over Occidental on Saturday in which he allowed just three runs, all earned, on seven hits with no BB and one K. He threw 85 pitches with 56 for strikes.
Sophomore RF Noah Paulson (El Lago, Texas) is 5-14 (.357) with a home run, two runs scored, and four RBI, sophomore CF Blaine Birkelbach (Pearland, Texas) hit .412 (7-17) with three RBI, three runs, and two BB, and freshman UTL Garritt Romero (Manvel, Texas) went 3-6 with an RBI double in the win over Whittier. Junior INF Vance Sartor (Prescott Valley, Ariz.) went 4-13 (.308) with a home run, three runs, and two RBI, junior OF Howard Bachus (New Orleans, La.) was 2-5, and freshman INF Ethan Hopkins (Baton Rouge, La.) was 5-17 (.294) with three RBI, four runs, two doubles, and one BB. Senior OF Matthew Herrera (Sunnyvale, Texas) and senior C/1B Caleb Ickes (Prairieville, La.) each scored two runs.
Senior RHP Jacob Broussard (Houston, Texas) struck out three last weekend in 1.1 IP, freshman UTL Cayson Wilkins (Longview, Texas) made two appearances and allowed just two hits with one K in two IP and sophomore LHP Jacob Lukaszewski (Cypress, Texas) worked five innings last weekend over a pair of appearances and allowed just two earned runs and two hits with no BB and four K.

Centenary welcomes Millsaps College to town on Tuesday, Feb. 17 for its home opener set for 4 PM at Shehee Stadium.
The Diamond Gents will then head back to the West Coast to face George Fox University in a four-game series Feb. 19-21 in Newberg, Ore., and are then back home to close to the month of February with a three-game league series versus Concordia University Feb. 27-28.
