The Diamond Gents (9-12) and Majors (6-9) are meeting for the second time this season after Centenary recorded a 12-2 victory over Millsaps in its home opener on Feb. 17. The Diamond Gents led that game 4-1 after five innings and then scored eight times over the next three innings to cruise to the win. Centenary has won four of the last six meetings in the series.
Centenary split a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against LeTourneau University on Saturday, falling 5-3 in game one and responding with a 12-2 blowout via run-rule fashion in eight innings in game two at Shehee Stadium. The Diamond Gents, now 4-8 in conference play, were blanked 12-0 in seven innings on Friday evening in the series opener by the YellowJackets.
The Majors have lost five games in a row and were blasted 30-6 by Mississippi University for Women (MUW) at home last Tuesday. Millsaps is 5-4 at home this season while Centenary is 5-9 on the road.
Centenary is hitting .280 as a team with a .385 on-base percentage and slugging .371 with nine home runs. The Diamond Gents have 194 hits, scored 118 runs, 101 RBI, 32 doubles, two triples, 91 walks, 32 hit by pitches, 24 stolen bases, and nine sacrifice flies.
Sophomore RF Noah Paulson (El Lago, Texas) was red-hot against LeTourneau over the weekend as he finished 5-10 at the plate (.500) with a .583 OBP and slugged 1.000. He had four RBI, two doubles, four runs scored, two BB, and only struck out once. In game two of Saturday's DH, he went 3-4 with four RBI, a two-run home run, two doubles, three runs scored, and a BB. He tied his season high with three hits for his eighth multi-hit performance this season.
Sophomore RHP Coen Laroux (Woodworth, La.) worked 5.2 IP over the weekend and fanned eight batters, walked only two and allowed just one earned run on two hits. Laroux picked up a save, his second of the season, and pitched a season-high 4.1 innings in Saturday's win.
In the 12-2 win in game two of Saturday's DH, the Diamond Gents pounded LeTourneau pitchers for 17 hits – just two shy of their season high and the 10th game this season with 10+ hits and third with 16 or more.
LOOKING AHEAD:
Centenary returns to conference play this weekend with a three-game series at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas. The series begins on Saturday with a DH at NOON and concludes on Sunday with a single game at 1 PM. The Crusaders are 6-12 overall and 5-7 in conference play.
