Game One Recap: Centenary 9 George Fox 3
Senior RHP Jacob Broussard (Houston, Texas) started on the mound for the Diamond Gents and picked up his first win of the season as he pitched well, allowing just three runs (two earned) and five hits in six innings with one walk and a career-high nine strikeouts. Broussard faced 25 batters, hitting one, and threw 92 pitches with 62 for strikes. His previous high for K's in a game came last season at Trinity University when he fanned eight Tigers.
Sophomore RHP Coen Laroux (Woodworth, La.) relieved him and worked the final three innings and blanked the Bruins and not allowing a hit while allowing just one BB and one K. He faced 10 batters and threw 31 pitches – 21 for strikes.
Centenary's offense provided Broussard and Laroux with plenty of production – nine runs on 10 hits which included a pair of home runs and two doubles. The Diamond Gents walked five times, stole one base, and had a sacrifice fly.
The Bruins managed just five hits, left five runners on base, and struck out 10 times while drawing just a pair of walks. Tyler Clark came in for Plenert and allowed four runs, all earned, and five hits in two innings with one BB and no K and also allowed one homer. He hit one batter and threw a wild pitch while facing 13 batters and throwing 35 pitches (18 strikes). Spencer Simon then pitched the final inning and did not allow a run or a hit with one K as he faced three batters and threw just nine pitches – six for strikes.
Centenary took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as sophomore 3B Aron Gillum (Shreveport, La.) drove home senior 2B Clay Menard (Berwick, La.) on a sacrifice fly. The Bruins, however, answered with two runs in the bottom half of the first to take a 2-1 lead on a two-RBI double by catcher BJ Tokushima.
The Diamond Gents quickly tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the second after an RBI double by freshman 1B Ethan Hopkins (Baton Rouge, La.) scored freshman LF Parker Seago (Orange, Texas). Centenary then broke the tie with three runs in the fourth on an RBI single by Seago that scored sophomore RF Noah Paulson (El Lago, Texas) and then Hopkins launched a two-run dinger to right to score Seago and make it 5-2. The homer was the second of the season for the rookie Hopkins after he hit one on Tuesday at home against Millsaps College.
The Bruins got a run back in the sixth on an RBI triple by 1B Austin Stalwick that scored Tokushima but the Diamond Gents scored twice more in the seventh to stretch their lead on RBI singles by Menard and sophomore CF Blaine Birkelbach (Pearland, Texas).
Birkelbach then hit a two-run homer in the ninth to put the game away as he went 2-5 with three RBI and two runs scored at the top of the lineup. Hopkins finished 2-4 with three RBI and a run scored, and Paulson was 2-3 with a BB and a run scored. Gillum finished 0-3 but has the sac fly, a BB, and stole a base. Menard had a big game as he went 1-2 with three BB, an RBI, and a run scored, junior SS Vance Sartor (Prescott Valley, Ariz.) was 1-5 and senior C Caleb Ickes (Prairieville, La.) was 1-3 with two runs scored.

Aidan Rady (1-1) started for the Bruins and held the Centenary offense in check as he allowed just one earned run on three hits in six innings of work with no BB and four K's. He faced 22 batters, hitting a pair, and threw just 65 pitches with 48 for strikes. Andrew Miller relieved him and went 2.1 innings and did not allow any runs on just one hit with one BB and a pair of K's. He faced nine batters and threw 36 pitches (26 strikes). Cole Schmidt picked up his second save of the season as he got the final two outs of the game to seal the win.

He did not allow any earned runs and just two hits and fanned two of the 19 batters he faced while throwing 87 pitches (44 strikes). Sophomore P/IF Treyson Martin (Huffman, Texas) came in for Hughes and went 1.2 innings and allowed two runs, both earned, and a hit with three BB and four K's. He faced nine batters and threw 41 pitches with 22 strikes. He took the loss to fall to 2-1 on the season.

Centenary held its 1-0 lead until the bottom of the sixth when Martin ran into trouble by walking 1B Brennan Bates and CF Kaden Oshiro with two outs. SS Joey Marasco then drove in Bates to tie the game and Dingler entered the game to pitch for Martin. Marasco then got caught in a rundown as Oshiro scored before Centenary could tag Marasco and the Bruins took a 2-1 lead. Tokushima then added some insurance with a two-run home run in the seventh to make it 4-1.
Sartor led the Diamond Gents with three hits and Birkelbach was 1-3 with a run scored and he and Sartor each stole a base while Paulson drew the lone BB for Centenary.
