Shreveport – Senior Sophie Schmitz (Trophy Club, Texas) is this week's recipient of the Coaches' Choice Award, the Midwest Independent Conference announced on Wednesday.
Schmitz earned one of the four individual honors that the conference chooses on a weekly basis and received it for the second time in her career and was named a co-winner with Mya Robinson of Illinois State University. She is the fifth Centenary gymnast to win the award this season, joining junior Claire Flores (Oklahoma City, Okla.) junior Amy Foret (Bedford, Texas), senior Emma Lavelle (Mandeville, La.) and sophomore Olivia Williams (Cape Coral, Fla.).
Schmitz recorded a career-high 9.65 on beam, scored a season-best 9.75 on bars and tied her career high on floor on Friday in a quad meet in Normal, Ill. against host and fellow MIC member Illinois State University, Bowling Green University, and Central Michigan University.
The Ladies will face Fisk University in their final home meet of the regular season on Saturday at 5 p.m.
