Fisk, a division II school located in Nashville, Tenn., enters Saturday's meet ranked 65th in this week's Road to Nationals rankings while the Ladies are 82nd. Centenary will honors its three seniors on Saturday - Emma Lavelle (Mandeville, La.), Sophie Schmitz (Trophy Club, Texas), and Mylia Vidtor (The Colony, Texas).
The Ladies recorded a season-best 189.250 team score last Friday in a quad meet against host and fellow Midwest Independent Conference member Illinois State University along with Bowling Green University, and Central Michigan University in Normal, Ill. The Ladies earned a season-best score on beam (48.350) followed by a 47.850 on floor, a 47.125 on vault, and a 45.925 on bars.
Junior Amy Foret (Bedford, Texas) and Schmitz each had impressive meets and Lavelle tied her career high on beam (9.80) as she tied for fourth place.
Foret tied her season high on vault (9.50), and recorded a new season high on both beam (9.725) and floor (9.65) and Schmitz recorded a career-high 9.65 on beam, scored a season-best 9.75 on bars and tied her career high on floor. Schmitz finished third in the All-Around with a 37.750. Freshman Chloe Gilbert (Pflugerville, Texas) recorded a career-high 9.75 on beam and sophomore Brooke Murdock (Garland, Texas) had a season high on beam.
Schmitz was this week's recipient of the Coaches' Choice Award, the MIC announced on Wednesday as she earned one of the four individual honors that the conference chooses on a weekly basis and received it for the second time in her career and was named a co-winner with Mya Robinson of Illinois State University. She is the fifth Centenary gymnast to win the award this season, joining junior Claire Flores (Oklahoma City, Okla.), Foret, Lavelle, and sophomore Olivia Williams (Cape Coral, Fla.).
Lavelle has been named a finalist for the prestigious AAI Award sponsored by American Athletic Inc. (AAI), it was announced on Tuesday. Lavelle is the only division III gymnast of the 59 nominees in the country. The AAI Award is given annually and is voted on by NCAA women's gymnastics head coaches throughout the nation. The award, which is sponsored by the American Athletic Inc., is often likened to the Heisman Trophy for Women's Gymnastics and has become a symbol of excellence in the sport.
