Sophie Schmitz Receives WCGNIC "Outstanding Senior Athlete Award"
Senior Sophie Schmitz (Trophy Club, Texas) received the "Outstanding Senior Athlete Award" on Sunday afternoon during the 2025 Women's Collegiate Gymnastics National Invitational Championships awards ceremony at the Gold Dome.
Shreveport – Senior Sophie Schmitz (Trophy Club, Texas) received the "Outstanding Senior Athlete Award" on Sunday afternoon during the 2025 Women's Collegiate Gymnastics National Invitational Championships awards ceremony at the Gold Dome.
The prestigious award goes to the highest scoring all around senior athlete based off of Friday's results in which Schmitz finished fifth in the AA with a score of 37.850. Her best score of the meet was a 9.70 on bars followed by a 9.525 on vault. She competed at nationals for the second season in a row.
Schmitz finished third in the AA in last month's Midwest Independent Conference Championships, also held at the Gold Dome, with a score of 37.900 as she earned First-Team All-MIC honors. Schmitz also received the MIC Coaches' Choice Award on March 4 and was named a WCGNIC Scholar-Athlete at the nationals banquet on Thursday.
