Hampton, Ga. - The Brevard College men's golf team traveled to Hampton, Ga. this week to compete in the State Farm-Laker Collegiate Classic on Monday and Tuesday, which was hosted by Clayton State University.
The Tornados turned in combined team rounds of 304, 293 and 304 to finish with a three-round team score of 901, which was good enough to place them in a three-way tie for 11th-place overall.
Junior Thomas Bush paced the Tornados, as he carded rounds of 72, 72 and 78 to shoot a two-day score of 222, good enough to finish in a tie for 35th-place overall. Fellow classmate Grant Carnie bounced back from a first round 79 to shoot two rounds of 72 for a combined score of 223 overall and a tie for 38th-place.
Making up the rest of the Brevard College squad was a trio of freshmen, as Joshua Davis and Bret McGaughey each carded a three-round score of 229, placing them in a tie for 62nd - place, while Thomas Rennie turned in a two-day score of 235, placing him in 77th overall.
The University of West Florida team won the tournament, as the Argonauts carded rounds of 285, 286 and 293 for a tournament score of 864. UNC Pembroke finished in a close second, only six strokes behind West Florida with a combined team score of 870, while the host team Clayton State University tied for third-place overall with Georgia College and State University as both teams finished with a three-round combined team score of 871 for the tournament.
Rounding at the top-five was Lander University, who posted a two-day score of 874.
The Brevard College men's team will hit the links again on Monday, October 6 when the Tornados will compete in the SMC Fall Invitational tournament in Campobello, South Carolina.
