Tazewell, Tenn. - The Brevard College men's golfers turned in another solid performance this week, finishing third at the LMU Fall Invitational, hosted by Lincoln Memorial University. The Tornados finished with a team total of 19-over 595, just one stroke behind the host Railsplitters and Tusculum College. LMU edged the Pioneers in a playoff to capture the team trophy.
Brevard was paced again by Grant Carnie. The junior from Ellon, Scotland finished in a tie for second individually with a two-day total of 3-under 141. Carnie finished in a tie with Mars Hill's Josh Spalding (Weaverville, N.C.) and Tusculum's Chase Carroll (Knoxville, Tenn.), the first round co-leader after firing a 5-under 67 on Monday. Carnie, Spalding and Carroll could not touch Lenoir-Rhyne's Kent George (Granite Falls, N.C.), who coasted to medalist honors with a 9-under 135.
Brevard's Bret McGaughey (Laguna Beach, Ca.) turned in another solid tournament, finishing tied for 11th with a 3-over 147. Craig Galloway (East Calder, Scotland) also turned in a top-20 finished, placing tied for 18th with a score of 5-over 149. Thomas Rennie (Aberdeen, Scotland) finished in a 59th place tie with a score of 163, and Joshua Davis (Old Fort, N.C.) rounded out the Tornado line-up with a score of 166, placing him 65th.
The tournament marks of the end of the fall season for David Nelson's team. Brevard's next scheduled tournament begins March 2 in Salisbury, N.C., at the Richard Rendelman Invitational.
