Brevard College Men's Golf Signee Wins McDowell County Golf Championship
Nebo, N.C. - Brevard College Men's Golf signee Josh Davis, a standout for the McDowell High School Titans last season, shot a solid, 71, -1 Sunday at the Marion Lake Club to finish three shots ahead of the next competitor and win the McDowell County Golf Championship.
Davis, shot a round of 72, even par on Saturday in the first round, leaving him two strokes behind heading into the final round Sunday.
Yet Davis stormed back on the final day to card a 71, -1, to win the event, finishing his final round with a birdie on hole 18.
"I hit good, quality shots coming down the last four holes," said Davis. "This feels great. I don't know how to describe it."
"I was thrilled Joshua won the McDowell County Golf Championship recently," commented Brevard College Men's Golf Head Coach David Nelson. "His solid play
particularly down the stretch during the second round, clearly indicates he is ready to compete at the next level. I anticipate he will handle the pressure well as a freshman and contribute to the overall success of our program immediately."
Davis is one of five incoming freshman who will help to solidify a men's golf program that finished fourth last season in the South Atlantic Conference Championship tournament.
In 2008-09 the Tornados will compete as full NCAA Division II and South Atlantic Conference members, completing the transition from NAIA in a little over two-years.
