Gents Tee Off At UMHB Invitational On Monday
The Centenary men's golf team will tee off in the UMHB Invitational hosted by the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Monday at Sammons Park Golf Course.
Temple, Texas – The Centenary men's golf team will tee off in the UMHB Invitational hosted by the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Monday at Sammons Park Golf Course.
The Gents are coming off of a seventh-place finish in the 2024 SCAC Preview – their fall season opener last week in Whitney, Texas. Centenary is joined in the event by the host Cru, Belhaven University, East Texas Baptist University, Howard Payne University, Gettysburg, and McMurry University.
The field will tee off at 9 a.m. on Monday at the par 70, 6,597-yard course and play 18 holes followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday beginning at 9 a.m. Fans can watch live action of the tournament here: https://cruathletics.com/watch/?Live=52&type=Live
Centenary's lineup this week will be senior Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.), sophomore Aubrey Snell (Shreveport, La.), freshman Ryder Briggs (Blanchard, La.), junior Jeffrey Borchert (Katy, Texas), senior Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.), and junior Colton Mayer (Heath, Texas).
The Gents finished at 51-over par 627 last week at the SCAC Preview after shooting a 26-over par 314 in round two which was preceded by a 25-over 313 in round one. Bennett paced the Gents as he tied for sixth place at 4-over par 148. Bennett shot a 5-over par 77 in the final round after a 1-under par 71 in the opening round.
Snell finished in a tie for eighth place, shooting a 6-over par 150 with consecutive rounds of 75 and recorded his third-career top-10 finish. Briggs tied for 44th place after shooting a 20-over par 164 (83-81), Borchert tied for 48th place (21-over par 165) after shooting rounds of 84-81, and Jones finished 60th overall at 53-over par 197 after shooting rounds of 98-99. Mayer will make his season debut this week.
Bennett claimed his first-career individual title in the UMHB Invitational last fall as he fired an 11-under par 129 to win by two shots. His victory guided the Gents to a sixth-place finish in their season-opening event, as the Maroon and White shot an 11-over par 571.
