Bennett In Position For Another Individual Title As Gents Are Second At Home Tournament
The Centenary men’s golf team shot a 17-over par 305 on Monday and is in second place in its annual home tournament, the Hal Sutton Invitational, as the Gents will play their final round on Tuesday at The Golf Club at Stonebridge.

Tuesday's final round is set for 9 a.m. with an awards ceremony afterward. The men's field is being challenged this week by a par 72, 6,851-yard layout. The Gents finished seventh in last year's event.
The men's field is comprised of the host Gents, Blinn College, Hendrix College, Howard Payne University, Jacksonville College (TX), Louisiana Christian University, McMurry University, and Tyler Junior College.

Jacksonville is the team leader after day one at 6-over par 294, 11 shots ahead of the Gents. Tyler and Blinn's "A" Team are tied for third place, Hendrix is fifth, McMurry is sixth, Howard Payne is seventh, and Blinn's "B" team is eighth. The Gents are two strokes ahead of Tyler and Blinn's "A" team.
Senior Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) led the way for the Gents on Monday as he fired a 1-under par 71 and is three shots off the individual lead, trailing day one leader Rylen Caldwell of Jacksonville, who shot a 4-under par 68. Tyler's Hugo Koch is at even-par 72 as he and Bennett and Caldwell are the only three golfers in the field at or under par entering the final round.
Freshman Ryder Briggs (Blanchard, La.) shot a 4-over par 76 and is tied for 11th place, sophomore Aubrey Snell (Shreveport, La.) is tied for 20th place at 6-over par 78, junior Jeffrey Borchert (Katy, Texas) is tied for 28th place at 8-over 80, and senior Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) is 47th after shooting a 26-over 98.
Junior Colton Mayer (Heath, Texas) and junior Parker Christensen (Castle Rock, Colo.) played as individuals as Mayer is 46th at 23-over 95 and Christensen is 48th after shooting a 41-over 113.
Bennett tied for first place last week at the Fabric Solutions and Technologies Pinecrest Invitational hosted by LeTourneau University at the Pinecrest Country Club in Longview, Texas and was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golfer-of-the-Week last Wednesday. He has been named SCAC Golfer of the Week twice this season and three times in his career.
The senior now owns a trio of career outright wins, last week's tie for an individual title, 10 top-five finishes, and 13 top-10 finishes as he continues to add to his legacy as the top golfer in the division III era of the program. Bennett, the 2024 SCAC Individual Champion and Men's Golfer of the Year, tied for sixth, tied for second, and finished first in three tournaments this past Fall and finished 17th in the Space City Classic. He won the individual title at the Crusader Cup on Oct. 29.
