The Gents are playing in their second tournament of the spring season after finishing 10th in the Space City Classic last Tuesday in Houston as they shot a 95-over par 947.
The FST Pinecrest Invitational will feature a shotgun start both days beginning at 8:30 a.m. and is hosted by LeTourneau University. The men will play 54 total holes – 36 on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday at the par 72, 6,600-yard course.
The Gents are joined this week by host LeTourneau along with Baldwin Wallace University, Central College (Iowa), East Texas Baptist University, Mississippi University for Women, Lakeland University, the University of Texas at Dallas, and Jacksonville College.
The Gents' lineup this week consists of senior Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.), sophomore Aubrey Snell (Shreveport, La.), freshman Ryder Briggs (Blanchard, La.), junior Jeffrey Borchert (Katy, Texas), senior Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.), and junior Colton Mayer (Heath, Texas).
Bennett returns to a very familiar course for the final time in his stellar career as he earned a runner-up finish at Pinecrest CC in 2023, finishing one shot shy of an individual title. Bennett tied for 32nd place last season as he will play the course for a third time this week.
Bennett now owns a trio of career wins, nine top-five finishes, and 12 top-10 finishes as he continues to add to his legacy as the top golfer in the division III era of the program. Bennett, the 2024 SCAC Individual Champion and Men's Golfer of the Year, tied for sixth, tied for second, and finished first in three tournaments this Fall and finished 17th last week in the Space City Classic. He won the individual title at the Crusader Cup on Oct. 29.
Snell, who finished 25th last week in Houston, shot a 2-under par 70 to earn a fifth-place finish in the Crusader Cup back in October and both Briggs and Borchert earned top-25 finishes. Bennett and Snell each recorded top-10 finishes in the 2024 SCAC Preview back in September and at the UMHB Invitational in the Fall Bennett tied for second place and Snell finished fifth. Snell was named the 2024 SCAC Freshman of the Year after finishing third at the championships last season.
The Gents will host their annual home tournament, the Hal Sutton Invitational at The Golf Club at Stonebridge (March 17-18), and play in the West Regional Invitational at Berry Creek Country Club in Georgetown, Texas on March 31-April 1. The annual SCAC Championships return to Whitney, Texas and will be played at White Bluff Golf Resort April 13-15.
