The men's field is comprised of the host Gents, Blinn College, Hendrix College, Howard Payne University, Jacksonville College, Louisiana Christian University, McMurry University, and Weatherford College.
The women's field includes the host Ladies, Blinn, Hendrix, Howard Payne, Jacksonville, Louisiana Christian, McMurry, Millsaps College, Texas Lutheran University, Tyler Junior College, and Weatherford.
The Ladies are back in action after the final day of their most recent tournament, the Schreiner Women's Shootout, was cancelled on March 4 due to high winds that made the course unplayable as the event was limited to just one round.
The Ladies shot a 92-over par 380 in round one to finish in 10th place in their spring season opener. Freshman Amber Shaw (Hughes Springs, Texas) led the way for the Ladies as she shot a 19-over par 91 and was tied for 48th place while sophomore Jordyn Templeton (Columbus, Texas) was 54th after shooting a 22-over 94.
Sophomore Mya Thompson (South Jordan, Utah) shot a 23-over 95 and was 57th, and freshman Haylee Crowder (Haughton, La.) shot a 28-over 100 and was in 61st place.
The Gents finished sixth last week in the Fabric Solutions and Technologies Pinecrest Invitational hosted by LeTourneau University at the Pinecrest Country Club in Longview, Texas. Senior Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) tied for first place to lead the way for Centenary. Bennett and three golfers finished in a four-way tie for first place at 5-under par 211 and UT Dallas' Parker McCurdy defeated LeTourneau's Corbin Barton with a birdie putt on the fourth playoff hole to claim the individual title.
Bennett, who was at 6-under par 138 after consecutive rounds of 69 on Monday, entered Tuesday's final round one shot ahead of McCurdy (-5 - 139) who shot 69-70 on Monday. Kaiden Schneider of LETU was the fourth golfer who tied for the individual title.
The Gents, playing in their second tournament of the spring season after finishing 10th in the Space City Classic on Feb. 25, finished at 38-over par 902. Centenary shot a 17-over par 593 (289-304) on Monday and followed with a 21-over 309 in Tuesday's final round.
Sophomore Aubrey Snell (Shreveport, La.) finished in a tie for 13th place at 5-over par 221 as he shot rounds of 69-77-75, freshman Ryder Briggs (Blanchard, La.) shot a 15-over 231 to tie for 30th place, junior Jeffrey Borchert (Katy, Texas) tied for 49th place at 26-over 242, senior Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) tied for 60th (37-over 253), and junior Colton Mayer (Heath, Texas) finished in a tie for 74th place at 69-over par 285.
Bennett was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golfer-of-the-Week last Wednesday as he has been named SCAC Golfer of the Week twice this season and three times in his career.
Bennett was back at a very familiar course for the final time in his stellar career as he earned a runner-up finish at Pinecrest CC in 2023, finishing one shot shy of an individual title. The senior now owns a trio of career outright wins, Tuesday's tie for an individual title, 10 top-five finishes, and 13 top-10 finishes as he continues to add to his legacy as the top golfer in the division III era of the program. Bennett, the 2024 SCAC Individual Champion and Men's Golfer of the Year, tied for sixth, tied for second, and finished first in three tournaments this past Fall and finished 17th in the Space City Classic. He won the individual title at the Crusader Cup on Oct. 29.
Crowder, Shaw, Templeton, and Thompson will play this week for the Ladies and on the men's side, Mayer and junior Parker Christensen (Castle Rock, Colo.) will play as individuals along with the Gents' lineup of Bennett, Snell, Briggs, Borchert, and Jones.
