Bennett Claims Individual Title At Hal Sutton Invitational As Gents Finish Fourth
Senior Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) claimed the individual title in the Gents' annual home tournament, the Hal Sutton Invitational, on Tuesday to lead the Centenary men's golf team to a fourth-place finish at The Golf Club at Stonebridge.

Tyler Junior College won the team title by shooting a 23-over par 599 and was led by Hugo Koch as he finished two shots behind Bennett. The Gents shot a 37-over 613 for the tournament with a 17-over 205 on Monday followed by a 20-over 208 in Tuesday's final round. The men's field was challenged by a par 72, 6,851-yard layout. Bennett shot rounds of 71-72 to finish at 1-under par 143 for the tournament and edge Koch (1-over par 145) by two shots. Bennett was the only golfer to finish under par for the tournament.
Jacksonville College (TX) finished third after leading following Monday's first round as Jacksonville shot a 27-over 603 to finish four strokes behind Tyler. Blinn College's "A" Team finished third at 29-over 605 and eight shots ahead of the Gents. Hendrix College finished fifth (43-over 619), Howard Payne University finished sixth at 60-over par 636, McMurry University was seventh (70-over 646), and Blinn's B squad finished eighth at 87-over 663.
Bennett, who tied for first place last week at the Pinecrest Invitational, now owns four-career outright wins, 11 top-five finishes, and 14 top-10 finishes as he continues to add to his legacy as the top golfer in the division III era of the program. Bennett, the 2024 SCAC Individual Champion and Men's Golfer of the Year, also won the individual title at the Crusader Cup on Oct. 29.
Sophomore Aubrey Snell (Shreveport, La.) recorded the Gents' second-best finish as he shot a 9-over par 153 to tie for 14th place, junior Jeffrey Borchert (Katy, Texas) tied for 24th place at 14-over 158, freshman Ryder Briggs (Blanchard, La.) shot a 15-over 159 to tie for 26th, and senior Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) finished 47 at 54-over 198.
Junior Colton Mayer (Heath, Texas) and junior Parker Christensen (Castle Rock, Colo.) played as individuals as Mayer shot a 42-over 186 to finish 46th and Christensen finished 48th after shooting a 77-over par 221.
The Gents will return to action in the West Region Invitational March 31-April 1 at Berry Creek CC in Georgetown, Texas.
