Bennett Eyes Individual Title With Gents Tied For Second At UMHB Invitational

The Gents, who are tied with UMHB's "B" team, trail tournament leader Gettysburg College who sits at 2-under par 278. Centenary, the host Cru, and Gettysburg are also joined in the event by Belhaven University, East Texas Baptist University, Howard Payne University, and McMurry University.
Senior Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) is the top golfer for the Gents after Monday's opening round after shooting a 1-over par 71 and is tied for second place with Patrick Kilcoyne of Gettysburg. The individual leader after one round is Gettysburg's Daniel Casanta (even par 70).
Freshman Ryder Briggs (Blanchard, La.) shot a 3-over par 73 to finish the day in a tie for sixth place, junior Jeffrey Borchert (Katy, Texas) is tied for 16th place at 6-over par 76, sophomore Aubrey Snell (Shreveport, La.) shot a 7-over par 77 and is tied for 22nd, senior Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) is tied for 33rd place after shooting a 10-over par 80, and junior Colton Mayer (Heath, Texas) shot a 19-over par 89 and is in 55th place.
The Gents are coming off of a seventh-place finish in the 2024 SCAC Preview – their fall season opener last week in Whitney, Texas. The Gents finished at 51-over par 627 after shooting a 26-over par 314 in round two which was preceded by a 25-over 313 in round one. Bennett paced the Gents as he tied for sixth place at 4-over par 148. He shot a 5-over par 77 in the final round after a 1-under par 71 in the opening round.
Bennett claimed his first-career individual title in the UMHB Invitational last fall as he fired an 11-under par 129 to win by two shots. His victory guided the Gents to a sixth-place finish in their season-opening event, as the Maroon and White shot an 11-over par 571.
McMurry is in fourth place at 290 (+10). Mary Hardin-Baylor's A Team is fifth with a 299 (+19), followed by East Texas Baptist (+23), Belhaven (+30), Howard Payne (+32) and Howard Payne B (+42).
