Bennett Tied for Third After Day One at SCAC Preview

The Gents, who finished last season at the course in the 2024 SCAC Championships, shot a combined 313 and were led by senior Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) who shot a 1-under par 71 and is tied for third place. Bennett claimed the 2024 individual conference title last season on the very course last April, becoming the first Centenary men's golfer in the division III era to win an individual conference title as he finished at 4-under par 212. He was named the SCAC Men's Golfer of the Year and earned First-Team All-SCAC honors.
Sophomore Aubrey Snell (Shreveport, La.) shot a 3-over par 75 and is tied for 17th, freshman, Ryder Briggs (Blanchard, La.) shot an 83 (+11) to finish the first round 49th overall, and junior Jeffrey Borchert (Katy, Texas) shot an 84 (+12) to finish the round tied for 50th. Senior Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) shot a 98 (+26) to finish 60th overall. Snell also no doubt enjoyed his return to Whitney as he finished third at 8-over par 224 in the conference championships last season and joined Bennett on the All-SCAC First Team and was named the SCAC Freshman of the Year.
Trinity University leads the field after one round as the Tigers shot a 292 score, eight shots ahead of Southwestern University. McMurry University's Cullen Timms fired a 3-under par 69 to hold the individual lead after one round.
The Gents will tee off at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday for the second and final round.
