Gents To Face ETBU On Tuesday Night

The Gents (0-6) and Tigers (3-8) will meet for the second time this season after ETBU defeated Centenary 73-67 on Nov. 14 in Shreveport and the Gents' home opener.
Centenary was edged 63-62 by LeTourneau University last Tuesday in Longview, Texas in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams and is 0-3 on the road this season. The Tigers, 0-2 at home this season, fell 76-63 at Maryville College on Saturday.
A Look back at the Nov. 14 meeting:
Centenary cut its 11-point halftime deficit to three early in the second half, but ETBU prevailed in the first meeting between the two teams since Nov. 12, 2022 when ETBU recorded a 95-76 victory in Marshall, Texas.
Both teams shot the ball well as the Gents finished 25-57 for 43.9 % from the floor while the Tigers went 30-65 for 46.2 %. The Tigers won the rebounding battle 42-36 and the battle inside, finishing with a 48-30 edge in points in the paint.
Senior G Quentin Beverly (Katy, Texas) led all scorers with 23 points as he finished 8-16 from the floor and played all 40 minutes. Beverly hit four treys and added seven rebounds, four assists, and a steal and only turned the ball over one time. Freshman G Jaden Braden (Natchitoches, La.) posted his first double-figure scoring performance of the season as he finished with 15 points. The rookie played 38 minutes and was 5-11 from the floor and 5-7 at the FT line with four rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
Michael Roberts (19) led the Tigers in scoring and was joined by three others in double figures – Nathan Fleming (14), Shad Levy (10), and Jack Pease (10). Orlando Gooden II scored nine off the bench, Christian Dews had seven, and Josh Joe had four.
The Gents are averaging 65.7 PPG as a team, shooting 40.4 % from the floor, 69.2 % from the FT line, and 23.8 % from beyond the arc. Centenary averages 35.5 rebounds/game and 8.8 assists/game.
Beverly (14.2) is the Gents' leading scorer followed by senior G Craig Collier (North Little Rock, Ark.) at 13.2 PPG and sophomore G Nicholas Addison (Cedar Hill, Texas) is third at 11.2 PPG. Jaden Braden averages 9.7 PPG and freshman G/F Kane Broussard (Iowa, La.) is next at 7.8 PPG.
Freshman C Bryce Evans (Austin, Texas) is averaging 4.3 PPG, junior F Dontarius Coleman (Gibsland, La.) averages 4.0 PPG and sophomore G Trenton Thomas (Cedar Hill, Texas) is at 3.3 PPG.
Addison has been one of the league's top all-around players so far as he is the conference leader in FG % (62.5), leads the team in rebounding (8.0/game) to rank fifth in the league, and is tied for 13th in steals (1.8). He also averages 2.0 assists/game and shoots 77.8 % from the FT line, good for top 15 in the conference. He has three double-digit scoring performances this season along with one double-double.
Addison scored a team-high 15 points for the Gents against LeTourneau as he was 5-7 from the floor in 30 minutes with eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals and finished 5-6 at the FT line.
Centenary took a 62-60 lead on a jumper by Collier with just 36 seconds remaining but a 3-pointer by Connor Miller with 26 seconds left was the winning basket for the YellowJackets. The Gents, which led 34-32 at halftime, had three players finish in double figures as Beverly had 14, and Braden added 13 to join Addison.
The Gents shot a season-best 44 % (22-50) from the floor at LeTourneau last week and were red hot in the first half, finishing at 58.3 % before cooling down in the second period (30.8 %). Four of the Gents' six losses have been by six points or less with a pair of one-point losses.
Beverly (16th), Collier (24th), and Addison (27th) are all ranked in the top 30 in the conference in scoring, Evans is tied for seventh in blocked shots (1.0/game), and Beverly is tied for fifth in minutes played (33.0).
The Gents have been strong on the defensive side of the ball as they rank second in the conference in both field goal % defense (43.5) and 3-point FG % defense (28.2), third in scoring defense (74.7) and seventh in blocked shots.
The Gents will face Howard Payne University on Dec. 12 in Brownwood, Texas before returning home for a rematch the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Cru on Friday, Dec. 19 (6 PM).
