Men's Basketball Selected as "Team of the Week"
The Centenary men's basketball team has been selected as Centenary Athletics' "Team of the Week" after the Gents won their first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game last Friday and went 1-1 on the road for the weekend.
Shreveport - The Centenary men's basketball team has been selected as Centenary Athletics' "Team of the Week" after the Gents won their first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game last Friday and went 1-1 on the road for the weekend.
The Gents (2-10, 1-3 SCAC) split a pair of games, defeating McMurry University by a score of 94-89 on Friday in Abilene, Texas and falling 68-65 to Schreiner University on Sunday in Kerrville, Texas.
Senior G Quentin Beverly (Katy, Texas) eclipsed 1,000 career points on Sunday afternoon with 27 against Schreiner as he becomes just the 37th Gent to score 1,000 or more career points in the 102 years of Centenary men's basketball. He led all scorers on Sunday after scoring 30 on Friday night in a 94-89 over McMurry.
Beverly reached double figures for the 11th game in a row as he has scored 20+ points five times this season and now has four 30-point games in his career. Beverly now has 1,010 career points, is averaging 18.1 PPG this season, and 12.0 for his career. He was appropriately named the SCAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Centenary led 46-45 at halftime and outscored McMurry 48-44 in the second half to secure the road win as the Maroon and White scored a season high in points. The Gents shot a sizzling 54.1 % (33-61) from the floor and 52.0 % (13-25) from 3-point range, both season bests, as it marked the first time that Centenary has shot 50 % or better from the floor and beyond the arc in the same game since Feb. 25, 2024 against Colorado College. Centenary only turned the ball over one time, its fewest since having none against Belhaven University on Nov. 27, 2023.
Centenary is back on the road this weekend for games at Austin College (Jan. 16 – 6 PM) and the University of Dallas (Jan. 17 – 4 PM).
