Irving, Texas - The Centenary men's basketball team could not hold a double-digit lead in the second half as the Gents fell 68-63 to the University of Dallas Crusaders on Saturday afternoon in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest inside the Maher Center.
The Gents (3-11, 2-4 SCAC) began the weekend with a victory by that same score on Friday evening at Austin College. The Crusaders (7-8, 3-3 SCAC) rebounded from a 75-55 loss at home on Friday against LeTourneau University.
Centenary led 36-25 at halftime and 52-41 with 9:46 remaining in the game, but Dallas closed on a 27-11 run while outscoring the Maroon and White 43-27 in the second half to seal the comeback win. The game featured 12 ties and 16 lead changes

Dallas outrebounded Centenary 36-26 and finished with a 32-24 edge in points in the paint and 9-2 in second-chance points. Both teams took good care of the ball as the Gents turned it over just six times which led to seven points for Dallas and the Crusaders committed 10 turnovers which led to nine Gents' points.
Centenary, which had five fastbreak points to Dallas' four, got 12 points from its bench and the Dallas bench contributed four. Centenary finished with nine assists and six steals while Dallas had eight steals and one assist.
Senior G Quentin Beverly (Katy, Texas) led all scorers with 25 points as he finished 9-21 from the floor and 5-10 from beyond the arc in 38 minutes. Dallas scored the first four points of the game and led 6-2 at the 15:33 mark, but Centenary answered with a 16-0 run to take an 8-6 lead on a Beverly jumper. Up 11-10 with 10:48 left in the first half, the Gents went on a 12-0 run to stretch their lead to 23-10 with 7:47 remaining until halftime. Centenary's biggest lead of the half was 34-19 at the 2:24 mark of the half following a Broussard trey. Dallas closed the half on a 6-2 run to make it 36-25 at intermission.
The second half featured seven lead changes and four ties despite being controlled by the Gents, but a strange occurrence in the Maher Center caused a delay midway through the half. A fire alarm went off which prompted the gym to be cleared and created a 10-15-minute delay before play resumed. Once the game continued, Dallas' offense was sparked and began to chip away at its deficit.
Centenary led 52-41 at the 9:46 mark, but the Crusaders went on an 11-0 run capped by a Burgan dunk to give UD a 53-52 lead with 6:08 on the clock. Braden sank a pair of free throws to make it 54-53 and then five lead changes and three ties followed over the next five minutes.
Two free throws by Beverly with 2:56 remaining gave the Gents a 59-56 lead but on the Crusaders' ensuing possession, Beverly fouled Fleming attempting a 3-pointer and he sank all three at the line to tie the game at 59-59. Fleming then nailed a trey to give Dallas a 62-59 lead with 1:41 left but Beverly tied the game with a trey of his own just seconds later. Taylor was fouled by Holmes with 1:01 left and he made 1-2 at the FT line to give the Gents a 63-62 lead. Olmsted then made a layup to give the Crusaders a 64-63 lead with 51 seconds remaining and Beverly missed a trey after which Broussard fouled Holmes and he made a pair of FT's to make it 66-63 Dallas with only 22 seconds remaining. Beverly missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer with 11 seconds left and the Gents were forced to foul Fleming and he iced the game with a pair at the line to make it 68-63.
The Gents will play their final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday evening as they face the Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets at 7:30 PM inside the Gold Dome.
